  • 19 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: This country will grow when we learn to be disciplined, to put our mouths where our monies are and not to let down Kenyans even where it is very clear that we are doing it. You have heard that we will still put some money in the railway line and yet it is making losses. I have heard Members saying that we are widening the tax bracket and taxing betting. We are still taxing imports in the 21st Century. Let me tell you something that happened. We banned the use of polythene paper. We said that we do not want ... view
  • 19 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: As we pass the Finance Bill, I request that we need to put Kenyans in front and ensure that we are honest to them. Let us all be ruled by the same law. view
  • 18 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
  • 18 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would not like to interrupt any Member, but I am lost on the Bill that we are now debating in terms of relevance. Just for clarification, are we discussing the Employment (Amendment) Bill or we are still on the Banking (Amendment) Bill? view
  • 18 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you so much, Hon. Speaker. I was waiting to speak to this Bill simply because I can see what has been happening in the country and you would imagine that adoption of children is left to foreigners. It is like it is for people who are white in skin and not for normal Kenyans. The truth is that so many Kenyans indeed adopt children, so many Kenyans care for children. In my formative years, before I went to university, I used to teach at a children’s home where we had more than 1,000 children picked from the streets of ... view
  • 18 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Therefore, I would propose, over and above the leave days, give some incentives that are within the reach of the Government. Also encourage employers that children of this country are the future of this country. Seeing them on the streets suffering is not what everyone else wants. Having government-backed programmes, policy mechanisms and tax incentives would signal to all of us that the Government means well for children and for those who are willing to go the extra mile to take in one more person as a family. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I support with the rider that I will ... view
  • 10 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you so much, Hon. Speaker. I shudder to think that what the Member for Endebess has raised can even arise. We are dealing with lawlessness and cases of us simply refusing to abide by the law. This week has been an interesting one and it is just the second day of the week. Yesterday, we saw the DPP refusing to accept a court order. There are so many cases in this country every day where people willfully refuse to respect the letter of the law. So, while you made a ruling about the Member for Endebess going to the ... view
  • 1 Aug 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support this very important Bill. Planning is a major function of the national Government and the county governments. It requires us to have precise numbers that can help us decide how we will distribute resources. Numbers are always magic. If you lose the arithmetic of numbers, then planning goes off the rail. That is why this Bill is very important. It aligns the current KNBS with the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. If you have heard what is happening in the counties today, for the first time, the KNBS will ... view
  • 1 Aug 2019 in National Assembly: Before I go far, I want to say that politicians should stay off the census exercise that is coming. Our job in the census is to avail ourselves to be counted, but not to start managing numbers before we do the census. We should not front numbers and say that as a certain group of people, we are many and we have given birth to more children than others. We do not know the number of people in the country and that is why we are doing the census. The last census that was run in this country had problems. ... view
  • 1 Aug 2019 in National Assembly: When we go for elections every year, people laugh at us. If you look at the reports given by observers, they say that the election process was done very well. However, one thing with numbers in Kenya is that we do not know how to do additions. We count polling stations, constituencies and everything else but when it comes to tallying of votes, which is just adding one plus one, we get seven. When we add two plus two, we get eight. I want to request the bodies concerned to undertake this technical process objectively so that when we get ... view
