  • 29 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I am getting concerned on the issue of Cabinet Secretary and the fact that he does not turn up when instructed or requested by a Committee Chair. This is a very serious matter, and it is coming at a time when I was also thinking of bringing a very serious Statement that touches on what hon. (Ms) Lay has said, especially concerning mining. I would also wish that mining issues are looked at very seriously. I come from a county that is 90 per cent mining; Nyatike Constituency. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for ... view
  • 29 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: I wish to support what hon. (Ms) Lay is talking about in terms of violation of the rights of women who go to the mines. We have heard of people who have been trapped in mines and they have lost their families. They have not been compensated and the Government has not said anything. I really expect a very quick answer on that. view
  • 23 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to fully support this Motion because it is the right thing to do. It is not the first time we are talking about flooding in this country. We are all aware that when it floods, it really causes havoc in this country. I am talking about my county, Migori. Nyatike Constituency in my county has never known peace whenever it rains. Every time I am in Nyatike, I feel like I am not in this country. School children waste a lot of time looking for water. There are no households there. In ... view
  • 23 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: We have been talking about the construction of dams and dykes along the rivers. There is River Kuja in my county. When this river breaks it banks, families are displaced. I want to support this Motion because people and animals have died. We need to ensure that county governments train our people about harvesting water. Our people do not know how to harvest water. They largely depend on natural rain. When it does not rain in this country our people become poor. We need to be serious about the issue of flooding and water in this country. In this country, ... view
  • 10 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I have a lot of respect for the United States of America Government. I have lived, studied and worked there, but I look at the life that is lost and the widow who has been left behind. We have just been told that she was expecting. She has a family to feed. This is a poor Kenyan who has no one to run to. That is why I want the Leader of Majority to explain further. I am not satisfied that the Government is really serious about protecting the lives of its citizens in this country. If ... view
  • 2 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, hon. Deputy Speaker. I stand to oppose; must it be Muhoro? We are talking about regional representation in this House; so, why has it to be from one region? Every time we have a position in this country it has to go to one region, and we are talking about regional representation. I look forward to a day in this country and House when we will have a Dorobo, Endorois, Kuria or other minority communities being given an opportunity to represent this country. view
  • 2 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, it is very clear. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has a letter here that it is actively investigating Mr. Muhoro. If I were Mr. Muhoro, I would politely tell them to investigate me and let them present the findings they get about the position and my suitability. view
  • 2 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, for those reasons I am opposing this nomination of Mr. Muhoro. view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Speaker. view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. My point of order is that I think this is an issue that needs urgent attention. I want this issue addressed as soon as possible. We are keeping the National Gender and Equality Commission right now in limbo. Twelve months in acting capacity is not acceptable in this country. I would wish to support that the Committee reduces the number of days that they have to take to respond to this issue. view
