  • 26 Sep 2018 in Senate: I come from a pastoral community but unfortunately we do not have stadiums or fields where our people can practice sports and progress well. Today I went to Elgeyo- Marakwet and I was told most of the athletes go there. There is an important field where everyone comes to train. Unfortunately, Elgeyo-Marakwet is very far for us. There are very good recommendations that have been made by several speakers in this debate which I believe the Senate Majority Leader should put in action, run with them and ensure that we have amended the various legislations that are available and make ... view
  • 26 Sep 2018 in Senate: Sports has been used severally in our counties as peace building activities where communities come together to establish relationships, nurture peace and live together in harmony. This is a very important tool. We should start as early as possible, especially, in counties where we have many communities living together. We always have conflict; cattle rustling, boundary disputes and so on. If we take sports seriously, even as a curriculum in primary and secondary school level, we will empower our youth in this country and make sure that we have used sports as one of the careers that can build our ... view
  • 25 Sep 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity. It is really important for us to also have gender balance. Let me take this opportunity to thank the Governor of Uasin Gishu and his team and the Speaker of the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu for the work they have done. I remember we were here a week ago when most structures you have seen outside there were not in place. It is important to thank the leadership of Uasin Gishu County for the work they have done to make sure that the Senate sitting is successful today. Secondly, let me ... view
  • 25 Sep 2018 in Senate: Finally, we had a sitting this morning with the Governor of Baringo to discuss issues affecting his county. It is interesting to note that the Governor appeared before us with all his senior members of staff. By doing so, he was able to answer all audit queries with the assistance of his staff. This was a learning experience for them. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to appeal to the Senate that, the next sitting should be in a place that is not as rich as Uasin Gishu, and I will propose isiolo County for this matter. I will lobby ... view

  • 25 Sep 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, is it in order for Sen. Malalah to say that governors are the ones to be blamed for mining, yet the licensing of mining is a national Government function? I thank you. view

  • 13 Sep 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I wish to join my colleagues and I thank Sen. Waqo for the Statement. Secondly, I would like to pass a message of condolences to the families of the two ladies, Ms. Sharon Otieno and the lady from Isiolo, Ms. Sakina. Madam Temporary Speaker, this lady was a mother of two. She was picked from her house last night by some people who are known and taken to the bush where she was raped, tortured, killed and her intestines and other organs were removed. This is unacceptable and the Government should take serious action to ... view
  • 12 Sep 2018 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I wish to join my colleagues and yourself in welcoming members of staff from various counties including Nakuru, Garissa, Migori, Kirinyaga, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Makueni, Mombasa, Nyandarua, Nyamira and Tana River. The counties that have sent members of staff to the Senate will learn a lot from the Senate and also interact with members of staff of the Senate. I hope they will utilise the opportunity so that they build capacities of their assemblies and county governments. Capacity building is continuous even for this House. Yesterday I talked about capacity building for Members of County Assemblies (MCAs). Unfortunately, my ... view
