  • 10 Feb 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, if I look at the provincial administration now and then, I would say there was a lot of discipline instilled in the provincial administration. When you carry that swagger in the provincial administration and appeared before the public, people believed that President Moi was before you unlike now. That clearly means his discipline and behaviour got into almost every department of this country at that particular time. Thirdly, if you go to Isiolo County during Jamhuri Day, you will see a number of elderly men and women wearing KANU uniform whether Jubilee, FORD-Kenya or ODM is there; ... view

  • 29 Jan 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wish to support this Motion. One, let me congratulate the County Assembly of Kiambu. Two, I think the Governor of Kiambu and his lawyers intentionally refused to defend this case. That is my position. • 29 Jan 2020 in Senate: Three, the matter of allegation against the Governor that was brought on the Floor of this House is the matter this House has been grappling with over the years; issues of pending bills. We have said severally that corruption is hidden under pending bills. Mr. Speaker, Sir, let me now turn to the issues of wage bill. There are matters that have been brought severally in the Auditor-General’s Report. This House has discussed these matters severally. When the Government has set a ceiling of 35 per cent, some counties are at 59 per cent. Let me urge those who are ... view
  • 29 Jan 2020 in Senate: Finally, something that I will not forgive Governor Waititu for is the disposition of a property of a widow in that County. I fully support this Motion and this should send a signal to all the governors because we cannot let this go. We cannot be talking about these things in this House and when governors appear before us, we say this is politics; we forget about our responsibility. Thank you. view

However, the protection of the rights of citizens that live within the forest is also equally important. Over the years, I have seen people being evicted from forests, especially people like the Ogieks, Sebeis and Ndorobos. • 5 Dec 2019 in Senate: The challenge we face today, as a country, is lack of proper planning. Individuals are evicted from places where they have lived for many years. When I served at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), some of the communities were evicted from those lands after they had put up public utilities in place, such schools and hospitals. That is clearly because we do not plan for those facilities in time; neither do we advise members of the public before they occupy such areas. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is high time that we should stop evicting people after they ... view
