When you look at the condition of housing in this country, many people cannot afford decent houses. If we could introduce price control on building materials such as cement and iron sheets, at least, the majority of our people will be able to live like normal human beings. At the moment, it is very possible to find a decent family living under carton roofs. In the evening, you will find them busy collecting cartons which they use to construct structures to live in. Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance clarify to this House, the real position as the so called interest groups are already represented by sitting Members of Parliament. Why can this money not be channelled through CDF funds, so that CDF can take care of these interest groups?

asked the Minister for Water and Irrigation:- (a) to confirm the number of dams the Government has constructed in Alego Usonga constituency since Independence, providing their respective names and specific locations in the constituency; and, (b) what immediate action she will take to ensure that Obambo area in South West Alego and Randago in South Alego are provided with clean drinking water, considering that the underground water in the region is salty.

Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I would like to thank the Assistant Minister for giving me that information. The information is good news for my constituency. Out of the 20 dams, could he confirm how many are in operation, how many need de-silting and when will that be possible?

Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I would like the Assistant Minister to confirm to the House when the proposed Lake Kanyaboli Intake will be put in place. It is basically meant to serve the Obambo area that was not covered in your answer. Finally, could the Assistant Minister work out a programme to de-silt the affected dams? He does not have to give me an answer right now. I could, pick that information from his office. I would appreciate that.
