  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker, Sir. I stand to give tribute to the family, friends and those who knew hon. Chelagat Mutai. The late hon. Chelagat Mutai was one of the youngest women who made it to Parliament just at the age of 24 years. The loss of the great legislator has brought a lot of heart break to those who knew her, and to those who saw her rise up to her status. The loss of Chelagat Mutai is a great loss to the nation in general and more so, to the current and upcoming women leaders both in and ... view

  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: She was among the female legislators who made the Kenya African National Union (KANU) Government have sleepless nights at that time. The mission of those kind of women legislators was to fight corruption and injustice that was the order of the day during that time. They stood up to the Government of the day. The late Chelagat Mutai faced detention and torture. She faced all that so as to stand up for the people who elected her. I want to take this opportunity just to say that today, we adore Chelagat Mutai who died of a heart attack. But we ... view
  • 2 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. Let me thank the Mover of the Motion, hon. T.G. Ali. The Motion seeks to establish a Disaster Preparedness Authority. About three months ago, we had very serious floods all over the country. In my constituency, footpaths and bridges were washed away. Children could not access schools because the bridges were washed away. This Disaster Preparedness Authority is needed not only for floods, but for any other disasters that cause problems in the country. The authority should then be devolved to the counties, so that handling of disasters is ... view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support the Motion as amended. It is true that the girl-child in ASAL areas is facing challenges. However, at the same time the challenges that the girl-child is facing in the ASAL areas-- - view

  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I am supporting the amendment. The proposed facilities are needed all over the country because the challenges that the girl-child is facing in the ASAL areas are more or less the same challenges that the girl-child in, for instance, Turbo Constituency is facing. Maybe, additional allocation should be made to the Equalisation Fund to help the ASAL areas, but the matters being considered in this Motion should be for the whole country. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: With those remarks, I beg to support the amendment. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Motion. The athletes, the footballers and the rugby men have made this country known outside. It is very shameful that the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Arts is not aware of how many athletes are outside the country, and how many have come back. The same case applies to the footballers. It is high time we did a census to establish how many athletes are outside the country and how many have come back. We should also accord them security. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is these athletes who make the national anthem of this country be sung two or three times in a day during an international event. These are the people who should be given the necessary security. My colleague has said that there are some athletes who have gone for an international event but they have not come back and we do not know where they are. This is because, maybe, the Government does not provide security to our athletes. view
