  • 25 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Let me start off by also congratulating the Mover of the Bill. I would like to go a little further and say that for us to be able to properly, adequately and comprehensively deal with the issue of people living with disabilities, we need to start from the beginning. The beginning means parents and education. My plea to parents out there is that if you have a child who has disability, please make sure that this child gets all the opportunities available. Let us make sure that our institutions have facilities to be able ... view
  • 25 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Why do I say so? I say so because we have seen great people in this country and in the world excelling in areas where even people who are 100 per cent able have not excelled. I have in mind, for example, my mentor – the doctor who made me a gynecologist, the late Dr. Elon Wameyo. • 25 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: I am also thinking of people like Stevie Wonder, who was a great musician because his parents and the community at that time gave him the opportunity to attain the highest level in his field. So, my plea is to parents; make sure that you do not hide your children because they are born with either physical or mental disability. In our education system, let us open avenues for people with disabilities, so that they can attain the highest level in whatever field they are. view
