Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity so that I may contribute on this very important matter in this House. This Bill to amend the Constitution of Kenya comes at a time when we have a very serious pandemic. Many people have lost jobs and businesses between last year and now because of COVID-19. I was doing some small businesses around Kenyatta University before coming to this House. I toured the area the other day for a few things and was shocked to see that in the entire market; almost half of the shops ...

The BBI is not a priority now. Whatever good thing is in the BBI can wait for a later date. In BBI, it is proposed that we will have 94 Senators. We now have 47 elected and 20 nominated Senators. In total, they come to 67 Senators. You rarely see them in their constituencies because their mandate is to oversee the county governments. They are not very busy. I am left wondering, when we increase the number to 94, are we not just increasing the wage Bill? Listening to many Kenyans, most of our people now want a lean Government ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for the opportunity to support this Bill about the old people in our society. These are very important people because most of them fought for the Independence of this country and they have always desired to eat the fruits of the freedom. Unfortunately, these people go through a lot of problems. Many of them are sick. Others have to be taken out to bask in the sun. Others go hungry without food. Those of us who are here can confirm to you that they keep coming to us seeking for help from the Government. ...

Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for the opportunity to contribute to this very important Bill. From the onset, I would like to state that I represent a constituency that has many small- scale tea growers and has two tea factories that are doing very well and produce very good tea for local and international markets. It is good that I confirm to you that I am also a small-scale tea farmer. The truth of the matter is that most of our farmers do not earn good returns from the so much work that they do. The electronic version of the Official ...

So, I welcome this idea of establishing the Tea Board of Kenya that will oversee the operations of the tea subsector in our country. If you talk to the many tea farmers in our country, especially the small-scale farmers who are around 700, they will tell you that there is a problem with the way leaders or directors are elected in our factories. There are many requirements that do not give an opportunity for the best people to be elected to be in charge of the operations of tea production in many factories. For instance, there are requirements which dictate ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for the opportunity to add my voice to this very important Motion from Hon. George. Tharaka County borders Embu County. From Runyenjes Constituency, we can hear about how the desert locusts have badly hit our neighbours. It is time the Government declared this a national disaster, so that it is given the attention it requires. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. This is a threat to the economy. It is a problem in the region. It cannot be a small matter for this country. We would like to see the Government assuring Kenyans that enough is being done to cushion the rest of the country from the invasion. I have seen the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture moving from one invaded area to another and even taking photos of the locusts. It is time the Cabinet Secretary undertook a trip to one of the countries where there is a success story about fighting locusts, so that he can come and help the ...
