  • 6 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, mine is to congratulate my brother Eng. Gumbo, for bringing this Motion and for enabling us to celebrate the achievement of the gallant sons and daughters of Kenya. This House has done its part in honouring the heroes of this country including our athletes through a Motion that was brought by the same Mover of this Motion, Eng. Gumbo. I would ask the Government to ensure that that Motion is implemented and a Fund is set up. All that we have suggested today can be addressed through that Fund that should be implemented through that ... view
  • 17 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I heard the Assistant Minster mention the number of mega dams that the Government is undertaking, but I did not hear him mention one that is being undertaken around Tongaren in Naitiri area, between Kimilili and Lugari constituencies, whose floods have caused an uproar in this area. It is likely to displace over 40,000 people. Is this area part of the masterplan, and were the area residents consulted? view
  • 17 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is it in order for the Assistant Minister to evade my question? Is the mega dam around Kimilili, Lugari and Naitiri in Tongaren in your masterplan? I would like to know because the area residents are very concerned about that dam. view
  • 17 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, in his Statement, the Prime Minister has indicated that they target to clear the backlog of 650,000 to 800,000 pending applications. We have been told there will be about four million young Kenyans who will be eligible to have ID cards and to vote in the next general elections. However, they fear they might be locked out for lack of these important documents. So, if the Government is only, probably, covering 800,000, what will they do to ensure four million young Kenyans who wish to participate in the next general elections are not disenfranchised and locked ... view
  • 28 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. We were glad to learn yesterday about the 20 per cent increment of the teachers’ salaries. Were the teachers on contract also considered? What happened to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers? The Assistant Minister promised to look into their plight this year. view
  • 27 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Prime Minister has addressed the plight of refugees from Somalia, but we are aware that we have Kenyan refugees who have been in Uganda for the last three years. What is the Government doing to ensure that we bring back those Kenyans who are refugees in a neighbouring country and that their plight is addressed in the way we are addressing the plight of the Somali refugees? view
  • 27 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. There was a question about writing off of Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) loans. In his reply, the Prime Minister said that the Government will consider the issue on a case by case basis, while there is a solution of this House, which was passed in 2009, following a Motion that was fully debated, for writing off AFC loans held by farmers. Is the Prime Minister in order to totally disregard the resolution of this House to that effect? Can he indicate as to when the AFC loans will be written off ... view
  • 27 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it was a resolution of this House, following a Private Member’s Motion brought by me. view
  • 21 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Eng. Gumbo had raised a very specific issue that I did not hear the Minister addressing. It was on the interest of the Kenyan farmers vis-à-vis the international companies like Monsanto, that are developing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). What is the Government doing to ensure that Kenyan farmers are empowered to produce enough food and even export, like the Malawian farmers are doing, so that we do not have to import GMOs? view
