  • 20 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: County governments, especially those that have forest resources, have been agitating to have control over those resources. This Bill seeks to streamline this, so that even when we have the Kenya Forest Service, the county governments and the national Government, each role is defined in this Bill. It is good that I have gone through it. The Bill will also help realise Article 72 of the Constitution, which requires Parliament to enact legislation to protect the environment. view
  • 20 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: When you go to Garissa, Baringo and other areas, you will find the mathenge shrub, which has affected people and livestock. It is until very recently that through research, they have found that this is a cash cow. I am sure the people who come from where there is the mathenge shrub are laughing all the way to the bank because of the new discoveries. I would urge the Government, under this new Bill, to do more research, so that we can have more benefits across the country. As I support, I want to say that NEMA has done a ... view

  • 19 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Senator Kajwang’ was a bridge builder. He made sure that, though he belonged to the Opposition, he never antagonised members of the Jubilee Coalition. He only talked sense. He talked on issues and was never personal. He never hurt anybody across the political divide. view
  • 19 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Lastly, the people of Mbita where Senator Kajwang’ was born, grew up and was elected for the first time, have lost a very illustrious, hardworking and brilliant son. We all feel it. Let us support that family during this time through prayers. We will also pass a form around. Let us make contributions towards his burial expenses so that we give him a good send-off when that time comes. With those few remarks, hon. Speaker, I want to say pole and may God rest his soul in eternal peace. Thank you. view
  • 18 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance to contribute to this very important Motion. The Kambas were never given Dr. Nzomo; they married her. That is very good. Dr Lydia Nzomo is extremely qualified. As I can read from the mood of the House, Members are saying we can even reduce the minutes for debating this Motion. The whole House is so agreeable. Dr. Lydia Nzomo has risen through the ranks. She has served the Teachers Service Commission for 23 years. Even where she went to do curriculum development, she was dealing with education. So, there ... view
