  • 22 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I just want to say that committees have the power and the mandate to investigate and do everything possible. They also have the mandate because they are part of the three arms of the Government. In fact, we are the second arm of the Government after the Executive. view
  • 22 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: I am told by hon. Jimmy Angwenyi that we are the first. So, that power is there but let us also know that we are not experts and we should not be seen to make statements that will border on ignorance. That is because we are not experts in The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 22 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: some areas or we will be seen as sycophants or as people trying to protect a certain class of people. I watched when Members were trying to defend the gracious lady Gladys Shollei and some Members went overboard. You know, it is good to defend someone but it is also good to let due process of the law take its course. There were very many other people who were sacked. • 9 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I just want to thank the Mover of this Motion for coming up with a very relevant Motion. The whole process has been very expensive, haphazard and Kenyans suffer a lot. For example, in the constituency which I represent – Kitui West – my constituents have to travel all the way to Kitui Town to get birth certificates. The cost of transport is very ... view
  • 3 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I want from the outset to support this Motion. There are very good reasons for doing that. I want to thank the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology and the Committee Members for coming up with a very good piece of work which is not biased. It cuts across the political divide. I had predicted earlier that after six months, Committee Members will not be working with party directions. They are supposed to work as Members of the National Assembly. We have now started seeing that ... view

  • 3 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: This Committee made very good observations. First, the laws of Kenya have to be followed. The Teachers Service Commission Act has to be followed and we are also guided by our Standing Orders. This Committee observed that instead of three names being forwarded to the President, seven names were forwarded. That was in contravention of the Teachers Service Commission Act. They also say- and it is a point we support - we cannot break the law and get away with it. view
