  • 3 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: facts right. If that Committee has done a good job, surely we should support them; it does not matter which side of the political divide. Most of these members are above 53 years old and therefore near the retirement age; they are old. We are not discriminating against age. There should be transition--- view
  • 3 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I think it is also good for Members to respect the Chair. view
  • 3 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, the Constitution is very clear that any appointments must reflect the face of Kenya. The face of Kenya is not just the tribe. There are people with disabilities and so forth. Names of people with disabilities were presented to the President. They never appeared in this list and that is discriminatory. That is why we support this report. We cannot fit, as you rightly put it, all the tribes of Kenya in these slots. However, we have seen in the recent past that appointments have been concentrated on very few communities and yet we have 42 communities ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I just want to say very few things about the list that has been tabled before us. Some hon. Members have suffered very much for not belonging to any Committee. Others have suffered for belonging to only one Committee. As the House Business Committee, we met and agreed to harmonise this list once and for all. However, speaking from the CORD Coalition side, this list does not reflect what we had earlier agreed on. This is wrong. Therefore, I cannot stand here and support something that is not right to ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker when there was delay in submitting the list of Committee Members we did our part early enough. The two Whips from both Coalitions agreed to harmonize the list. We did so. The changes that are there are slight and they were introduced in the last minute. We agreed as a Committee and we chose hon.Kaluma, hon. Odhiambo-Mabona and hon. Musau who came up with a list that was acceptable to every hon. Member. However, when it went for printing, something different came up. The hon. Members I have mentioned can confirm that they came up with a ... view
  • 17 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this chance. I support the amendment to this Act. This is because the cost of living has shot up through the roof and most Kenyans cannot afford it. The promises that were made when the VAT Bill came before this House; that the prices of basic commodities will not be increased have not been kept. That is why I am for the amendment. Currently, bread goes for Kshs70. The price of milk, unga, sugar and even sanitary towels has gone up and yet, those are things that are used by common view
  • 17 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: . Kenyans cannot take this anymore. The cost of living is beyond them. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, there is a lady by the name Mayaya who called me last night. She comes from a place called Kitamwiki in Kitui. She said, “ Mheshimiwa Nyenze, please, please, fight for us. We cannot put food on the table.” I felt very touched by the words of that poor widow. view
  • 17 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker there are many retirees in the country. The teachers who retired were awarded something by the highest court in this country. They were to be paid some money because that was a court ruling. The retired teachers, who are old and sickly, cannot now lead a normal life because of the high cost of living. Let us think about the jobless youth, the widows, orphans, the old and sickly. Those people just want to lead ordinary lives. If the employed people who are poorly paid cannot put food on the table, what about those who have ... view
  • 5 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Tell them, hon. Speaker, Sir! Thank you very much! I just want to take this opportunity to say that we, as Kenyans, none of us and more so the Members of the National Assembly would wish any Kenyan to suffer in the hands or in a judicial system which is far away from home. For those who have cases there, the three leaders, we really feel it, as hon. Members. Politics aside, we feel for them but what I am about to say is let us not contemplate or even think about moving away from the Rome Statute. view
  • 5 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: The reasons I want to give for this are: We would be the first country in the world to pull out of the Rome Statute. view
