  • 30 Nov 2017 in National Assembly: I also want to note that finally and at last, the word “copyright”, has been defined properly. Other than copyrights, other related rights have also been considered. Having served in the media industry for quite some time, I would want to bring to your realisation that there are many other rights that are supposed to be protected when such category of people are being protected, when it comes to the originality of works. There are broadcast rights, transmission rights, distribution rights, labelling rights, beneficiary rights, royalty rights and reprographic rights. I am excited because all these rights have been touched ... view

  • 7 Nov 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this important debate. First, I send my sincere message of condolences to the people of Nyeri County, more specifically to the family and relatives of the late Dr. Gakuru. Indeed, we have lost a scholar and pray that heavenly Father will give them peace. On this issue that we are discussing today, the adoption of the National Climate Change Framework Policy, I recognise that Kenya is one of the countries that require a policy framework that is going to help us to adequately plan on issues ... view
  • 7 Nov 2017 in National Assembly: human habitat zones and so, we need this policy. For us to join the rest of the world in the control of hazardous emissions and to achieve low carbon releases according to the levels expected in the world, even as we look forward to the levels of industrialization that we aspire as a country, we need a guiding principal. This is the policy that we should adopt as a guiding principal. For us to harness good health systems in Kenya, we need to plan the balance of ecosystems, noting that there are communities that are heavily dependent on ecosystems for ... view
  • 11 Oct 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to participate in this very important Motion, more particularly because I want to air issues that concern the people I represent, namely, the people of the great County of Kiambu, one of the most populous counties in Kenya. Noting that this land policy is going to be the benchmark for a lot of activities happening in our country, it could not come at a better time than this when our population is gradually swelling. For reference, in Kiambu County, we have 1.6 million people. According to the statistics that we are ... view
  • 11 Oct 2017 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, a GIS based national land use information management system is going to allow us to come up with the right system especially for the growing counties that are really heavy in business and traders. We need to come up with the right system which is going to help us to have the right market value for our properties. It is also going to allow us to collect revenues from our people for the sake of counties’ development. This policy is also going to help us plan our own markets in reference to Kiambu County which is growing fast. ... view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. First, I want to thank you for spotting me. I have been waiting since the beginning of the session but I thank God that you have been able to find it worthy for me to contribute to this Motion. Secondly, I want to congratulate you for the honour to serve in the Speaker’s Panel. I believe that based on your past experience in Laikipia County, you will do your best in this august House. I also want to take this opportunity to thank the great people of Kiambu County for giving me an opportunity ... view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: I recognise that water is very key to our economy. To be specific, in Kiambu County, water is a catalyst to most of the formal and informal businesses that we have. It is also good for me to note as a woman that water is such a key ingredient for most of the women, especially when it comes to our family units. To refer to Kiambu County, it is also good for me as a woman leader to recognise that we have quite an acute shortage of water, especially when it comes to domestic water use in the urban areas ... view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: In reference to the treaties that we are discussing today in support of this Motion to ratify the Nile Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement, I want to note that the treaties that are in discussions are historical, dating back from 1902, 1929 and 1959 amongst others. It is also important for me to note that these treaties as historical as they may be, much has changed geographically, demographically and even economically. Therefore, this necessitates that we review the treaties and come up with a unified way of looking for solutions that are emanating from the increased demography and economic activities. view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: It is also important for us to review the same, so that we can stop the agricultural dependency of our country on the First World countries, when it comes to the food supply and also ensure that we have freedom to make use of the water that originates from our land. It is also important for us to really give weight to the treaties and ratifications therein, so that we can stop the neo-colonialism which binds us from developing the water resource that is naturally endowed to us. To be specific, I am talking about the waters of River Nile. view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: I also want to look at the principles of community of interest. This brings into play the historical unfairness that demands that sustainable and equitable uses of the river... view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you for being gracious enough. I hope I will get my flow of the Motion. I was explaining that the ratification is purely justified because we require a common platform so that we stop the idea of having a big brother in the management of the affairs of the Nile Basin. We also need a common platform where we can have a common flow of information within the 10 treaty nations. We need concerted efforts in conservation and protection of the water and waterlines that exist in the beneficiary countries. We need to promote cohesive exploitation of the Nile ... view
