The justification is that mung beans, popularly known as green grams or ndengu in Kenya, are a staple food crop spread all over the country. It is also a cash crop in counties that are in dry areas. In particular, it is a cash crop in Tharaka Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County. It is also grown in Mwingi North in Kitui County, Makueni and Machakos.
