  • 14 Apr 2020 in National Assembly: situation the Covid-19 pandemic has placed us in. If there is something which this pandemic has revealed to the entire world, more so to Kenya, is the levels of classification in our society. We have people in Kenya who can buy everything, we have people who can buy some things and we have people who cannot buy anything at all. The number of the last category, people who cannot buy anything at all, is increasing every day. People are losing employment. Clause 11 of this Bill seeks to entitle older members of our society to affordable, adequate healthcare for free. How beautiful! I have had cases back in the village where elderly persons are taken to hospital, but they are not covered under the NHIF or any social security arrangement. The social security support system around them is not as strong as it was traditionally. You do not know how it can be done. It is worse when you think about ... view

  • 26 Feb 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, the fact of the matter is that the sensitivities of the issues that the Committee deals with make it difficult for us, at times, to report directly to the House. This is a security committee, but you will note that although we are talking about 101 Questions against 35 substantially reported to the House, even Members who asked the Questions are not complaining. Many are the matters that we deal with in terms of direct enforcement. I will give you an example.
