26 Sep 2013 in Senate:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I hope that the Chair is listening because this is a very serious matter. Although we are not going to ask the Chairman for the names, would he be able to lay on the Table the Statement, qualifying all what he has said, so that it can be followed? As things are today, it is very difficult to agree with the Statement that the Chairman has just read. This is because in some constituencies, that The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be ...

26 Sep 2013 in Senate:
Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, the mandate given to this Committee is quite clear to us; that they have the responsibility to do the job that the Chairman has just presented to us. It is important that they have done this job successfully and we now have a Report that we can adopt. This is a credit to the Committee. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate.

24 Sep 2013 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to make a very short statement about this matter. First of all, I would like to pass my condolences, like everybody else has done, to the families of those who have departed. Having said that, we have to accept that international terrorism is here to stay. Let us not beat about the bush about it.

24 Sep 2013 in Senate:
This is not just a Kenyan war, but it is an international war created by those who have reason to do so. Sometimes I get surprised when I hear somebody saying that the terrorists do not know what they are doing. Again, terrorists are not human. Those who are familiar with international terrorism must accept that terrorists are agents of some powers. That is why we say that a terrorist is a freedom fighter for a certain group of The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. 24 Sep 2013 in Senate:
people in this world. Since we are not going to deal with it the way we want, we must start from why and how we can deal with this matter. Madam Temporary Speaker, first of all, we must accept that we do not have any power to stop terrorists from striking anywhere in this world. We are in a new era unlike previously, when we were not so much involved. Terrorism in Kenya did not start with what happened on Saturday; it started in 1982 when they bombed the Norfolk Hotel. So, it is important for this Senate to note ...

19 Sep 2013 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity. I wish to make a Personal Statement under Standing Order No.85. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, my attention, has been drawn to a report attributed to me by a section of the media, specifically today’s issue of the Daily Nation of Thursday, 19th September, 2013, on page 16, which has misrepresented my contribution to this House made on 17th September, 2013. In this issue, I have been reported to have suggested that the Council of Governors (CoGs) should be disbanded. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, nothing can be further from the truth and ...

19 Sep 2013 in Senate:
Madam Temporary Speaker, I have been thinking of not contributing to this Motion but having thought twice, I think I should say something about it. We have a history of political parties in this country and that is why we landed in this area of contribution from the Government to support political parties. We have to ask ourselves, if people support your ideology and they support what you think is good for the country or people understand that ideology, they will contribute money and you can survive without government contribution, but this displayed nothing but weakness of Kenyan politics where ...

18 Sep 2013 in Senate:
Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this chance to also contribute to this very important Motion. Madam Temporary Speaker, this matter is a very involved and emotional matter because the whole country is suffering from insecurity. When I look at the new Constitution and also at the Senate, we have a responsibility to make sure that all the areas of security which have never been harmonized have been harmonized. This should be the time to think about this. Madam Temporary Speaker, my worry is that we are going to make very beautiful speeches here, like my friend, Sen. ...
