  • 6 Dec 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the safety of Kamene Mutuku was the responsibility of the house owner. An inquest file has been opened, but up to now, hearing of the inquest has not started. When will this hearing start, Mr. Assistant Minister? view
  • 6 Dec 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Assistant Minister says that the file was sent to the AG. According to what we have been hearing here, so many files have been sent to the AG for action, but he does not act on them. Could we request, through this House, His Excellency the President to sack the AG for incompetence? view
  • 29 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Education:- (a) whether he is aware that the standards of secondary education in Machakos District continue to decline compared to other districts in the country; (b) how many plain A's the district recorded in 2004 and 2005 KCSE examinations, and how this performance compares to that of Makueni, Bondo and Nyeri districts; and, (c) how many students qualified to join public universities from each constituency in the district in 2005. view
  • 29 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to thank the Assistant Minister for admitting that education standards in Machakos are declining. When the Assistant Minister said that 2,000 students out of a total of 11,000 have succeeded in joining our public universities, he forgot that 80,908 students did not qualify to be admitted in our universities. What programme has the Assistant Minister put in place to ensure that more students qualify to join public universities? view
  • 29 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, in many of our DEB meetings, we have been informed that many secondary schools go uninspected because of lack of quality assurance officers. In my district, there is only one quality assurance officer for all the secondary schools. How do you expect one officer to inspect all the secondary schools in the district and then expect the schools to perform better? view
  • 22 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister of State for Administration and National Security:- (a) whether he is aware that many robberies have occurred in Tala and Kangundo towns leading to loss of lives and property; (b) what steps he is taking to beef up security in the towns and their environs; and, (c) when Tala Police Post will be upgraded to a police station and supplied with a vehicle to enhance crime prevention. view
  • 22 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is very sad that the Assistant Minister says patrols have been intensified. A month ago, a priest and the Deputy Principal of Tala High School were gunned down at Ngelani Resort Club. Most of the people around Tala and Kangundo do not live in their homes. They have hired rooms at Tala and Kangundo shopping centres because of the prevailing insecurity in that area. When cases of robberies are reported to the police, the police request those who make the reports to provide them with fuel. Does the Ministry not have funds to enable ... view
  • 22 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the level of police shortage in Kangundo is alarming. In fact, at Tala Police Post, there are only six police officers. When four of the officers are deployed to man the Koma/Machakos junction road block, only two officers remain November 22, 2006 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 3823 at the police post. How do you expect the two officers to respond to distress calls given that one officer cannot move and leave the other one in the office? view
  • 16 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Administration and National Security:- (a) whether he is aware that many robberies have occurred in Tala and Kangundo towns leading to loss of lives and property; (b) what steps he is taking to beef up security in the towns and their environs; and, (c) when the Tala Police Post will be upgraded to a police station and supplied with a vehicle to enhance crime prevention. view
  • 16 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, this Question was deferred yesterday because the House was told that the Assistant Minister is out of the country and the Minister was busy at that time. This Question is on security. My people are dying in Kangundo. When will this Question be answered? view
