  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I stand to support this Motion because it intends to address inequalities in the development of our country. The ASAL areas have continued to lag behind. Successive Government’s investment priorities since Independence have favoured certain areas. It is, therefore, natural that we look for ways of addressing these inequalities. I commend the Jubilee Government for coming up with a budget that seeks to equalize those unequal developments. Ochieng could be speaking to, is one which may not enjoy what His Excellency the President generously gave to Kenyan women, to give birth without being charged. We have many clinics constructed through the CDF but which are without health officers. Therefore, I implore hon. Members to pass this Motion, so that women in my constituency can also enjoy these facilities. view
  • 12 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Another thing I would want considered alongside this Motion is for all District Hospitals to be provided with ambulances because without ambulances these facilities will not be enjoyed by people in most of the ASAL areas. Let me also reiterate that when it comes to posting of health workers, one would expect to see equity, with ASAL areas being considered. The ASAL areas are being discriminated. I rise to seek clarification on a few things that I know for a fact would be done better if the Government adhered to some of the interventional measures and used the instruments it possesses. Ten years ago, Kenya was chosen to be a focal point for small arms in East Africa. This is a very important institution that co-ordinates the whole of Great Lakes region and East Africa.
