Sometimes, students who are working get transferred to other areas and may not be able to complete their studies. (iv) Academic rigour. • 7 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Ministry has given research funds to support students and lecturers to do research in the universities. Those funds will enable the students to pursue postgraduate studies. We encourage universities to support students who get First Class Honours, for example. They should be employed in the universities, so that we can have enough staff. So, I want to assure the House and the country that we are working together with university leaders, chancellors and vice-chancellors to ensure that, indeed, students are not frustrated when they register for PhD studies. view
  • 7 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, indeed, we are happy that we will have a double intake, so that students do not spend so much time at home after graduating from high school. We are working together with the universities to make sure that quality is maintained. We are also working together with the Commission of Higher Education to ensure that academic standards are maintained in this country and in the region. view

  • 16 Feb 2011 in National Assembly: Athletes of this country are the true ambassadors of this country. They are the people, as one hon. Member has said, that have put Kenya on the world map. • 16 Feb 2011 in National Assembly: The sportsmen and women of this country work very hard. They invest a lot of resources in terms of time, energy and their mental focus to win the many medals that have made this country proud. I remember specifically the Olympic Games that were held in the Republic of China in Beijing in 2008, when I was the Minister in charge of youth and sports. It was a very moving time to see our sports women of this country; young girls really do us proud by winning gold medals for the first time. view
