  • 7 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I honestly urge you to demand that the Senate Minority Leader withdraws that statement. I say this because last year there was a bank that collapsed because of some funny information that circulated on Twitter. Therefore, that statement has a lot of impact, particularly when it is made in this honourable House, the Senate. If you do not handle such kind of utterances, we may set off a chain of major reactions that may torpedo very crucial private institutions. I believe that his allegation is not true and he has no evidence to substantiate it. I urge ... view
  • 6 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I bring a Petition which is dated 23rd February, 2018. The Petition is from the residents of Murang’a County who draw the attention of the House to the following:- (1) That the insurance sector in Kenya is well regulated by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), and there are specialist Medical Insurance Providers (MIP) that act as brokers who then source various health insurance coverage plans. (2) That health insurance protects the insured from high costs arising out of an illness or an accident provided, they are covered on a health policy from the health insurance companies. The ... view
  • 6 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I bring another Petition which was received on 28th February, 2018. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No. 224(3) to present a Petition on behalf of the residents of Maragwa, Kandara, Kigumo and Gatanga Constituencies in Murang’a County. A sanitary landfill has been proposed to be located at a place called Mitubiri, in Maragua sub-county of Murang’a County, occupying 19.5 hectares. The said project is situated in a place which is largely agricultural and in a fast developing area due to its proximity to Thika and Kenol Towns. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the project is intended to be ... view

  • 1 Mar 2018 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I seek your direction on this Bill. Is it in order for the hon. Senator to bring this Bill, notwithstanding the fact that the matter has not been considered by the Committee that is concerned? I imagine that once he moves the Bill, the second stage will be to second it. It will then be opened up for debate. I thought that this is the stage where the Committee brings a report stating whether the Bill ought to be supported or defeated. I seek your direction as to whether he can proceed, notwithstanding there is no Committee ... view

  • 1 Mar 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I rise to give my views on this Bill. Firstly, I congratulate my friend, Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. for having found time and done a very good job of coming up with this Bill to that extent I am quite happy. • 22 Feb 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. First, allow me to disclose my interest. The honourable Cabinet Secretary (CS) in charge of roads is from my county, that is, Murang’a County. So, to that extent, I wish to declare that. Secondly, is it in order for the Senate Minority Leader to discuss a CS who is not present with us here? We need a substantive Motion so that he is able to reply to the issues that have been raised against him. I would urge you to make a finding that the Senate Minority Leader is out of order by casting negative ... view
