1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly:
Hon. Deputy Speaker, the scientist should answer one question. What percentage does Kenya contribute to climate change? Compare that to China or the USA. That is the question. Therefore, if you were to agree with me that we contribute zero point something to that thing called “climate change”, you agree with me that we have no obligation. We have no obligation at all. They lied to us via previous treaties that they will compensate us through a system called “carbon trading”. Show me one person who has been paid money in Kiharu for planting a tree through the system they ...

Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. My point is very simple and I want to reiterate it again. What is the extent of our contribution to climate change?

1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly:
Look here, Hon. Deputy Speaker: As a poor country, you should be aiming at what we call “full employment”. That should be what is taxing any policy maker. “Full employment” is not obtained by putting a lot of bottlenecks. These are bottlenecks you are putting for entrepreneurs. I will give you several examples. One, there was an application by a company that wanted to establish coal mining in Kitui. That project was opposed by the so-called environmental activists. There was an application by a company over titanium at the Coast. It took 20 years for that company to establish. Why? ...

1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly:
Presently, we have the same struggle in our region about water that is being brought here for you people to consume. Again, the objections are based on these ideas. These are ideas of rich people and not poor people like us. We cannot afford to think about climate change when we are a very poor country. For us, our aim should be employment and employment. If we were to leverage, we should get out of this so-called Paris Climate Change Agreement and call out for various investors and tell them: “Oh, in our region, we do not mind about this ...

1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly:
Exactly, Hon. Deputy Speaker. Allow me to give my ideas and I am going to cite examples of countries which have developed by trashing these ideas. China, in 1979, was a very poor country. Deng Xiaoping assumed power and his first idea was to trash away these ideas of fettle business. One of the ideas that fettle business includes labour issues. You see the labour laws that we enacted the other day where we provide a minimum wage and so forth. Those ideas make business become very expensive. These are ideas for the rich and not poor people. I am ...

30 Nov 2016 in National Assembly:
Hon. Deputy Speaker, I take this opportunity to support the Bill brought by the Member for Ndhiwa, Hon. Neto. I support refugee rights, but we need to debate as to whether the best protection to refugees is where you integrate them in society or you keep them in one location. Kenya is a poor country, but we have been able to cater for refugees comparatively well. The way we have done it is incomparable to the way more advanced societies are doing it. I say that because I have been following news about the crisis of refugees in Europe on ...

30 Nov 2016 in National Assembly:
Therefore, when you see that happening, it is a negative vote on the part of our societies. It shows that we may need to increase safety nets. We should provide free food for our children in schools. The feeding programmes need to be entrenched. It is not good when Kenyans migrate to these camps and masquerade as refugees. In fact, it shows that we are not giving our locals better life compared to the ones they get at the refugee camps. There is this issue of the nexus between refugees and terrorism. I concede. I think it is unfair for ...

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I would like to raise two points of order with respect to this Report. The first point is the failure of the Committee to attach a minority report for posterity. As per our Standing Orders---

27 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I draw the attention of Members to Article 45 of the Constitution which establishes the right to family. The family unit complements the role of a State. When you look at how humans have been evolving since the time they were created by God or even for those who do not believe in God, since the so-called Big Bang Theory, family has been a very crucial unit of the society. Over the years, there have been very major attacks against the family unit. One of the ways in which modern times humans have been attacking the ...
