Hon. Speaker, I was in that Committee and I am the one who posed that question.

27 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, allow me to explain my point. I am one of the people who champion for the so-called “family unit.” I always oppose anyone who does not promote the family unit at any forum. In other jurisdictions, like the United States of America, one of the key contentious issues is nomination of people for appointment to serve in the Supreme Court. 27 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
is always an area of contention, even currently between the Democrats and the Republicans. People who value the importance of the Supreme Court will always oppose anyone who supports it. If you are a socially conservative like me, who believes in religion and the importance of a family unit, you will always oppose the appointment of a nominee who supports gay rights and abortion. I stand here as a key defender of the family unit. I want to oppose the nomination, for instance, of Justice Lenaola. We have no power to vet Justice Lenaola because he went on record and ...

27 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, I withdraw. However, when I put the question to Justice Mwilu as to what her views were on this subject, she clearly expressed herself on the basis of the answer that was given. I oppose because those statements, in my opinion, denote her as a person who does not appear to appreciate the need to uphold the family unit. As Members of Parliament, we have been given this role by our voters. That is a key reason for those of us who are Christians. As a conservative Catholic, I am of the view that we must ensure that ...

26 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
Hon. Deputy Speaker, is it in order for a Member of Parliament to withhold evidence that can be used in this matter? I say that because I saw a video of a Senator who was filmed in a saga where he appeared to be saying that the Pokot should beat up their neighbours. He was saying something like Samburu pagara ! Then he said Cheboi pagara ! That video is in the hands of the Temporary Deputy Speaker of this House. I thought it is very relevant to this discussion. Can you rule that Hon. Cheboi shares that video so ...

25 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I have no problem with the agitation by the women leaders. I would only urge them to become more strategic. I am one of those people who believe in the idea of women empowerment, including representation. The only issue is the strategy that is being employed. If I were in your caucus, one of the things I would be pushing for is not the original idea that we came with here because that idea was about increasing the nominated Members of Parliament. The best case scenario would have been that ...

25 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
I have to sit on the fence because I do not support Nyokabi’s idea of pushing for an increased number of nominated Members of Parliament. I cannot support it. That is a bloated workforce. That is what she has been pushing for. I was here when she brought the original amendment. On the other hand, I do not support the idea of us pushing women completely out of representation. As to whether we are going to make it progressive or not, the best option would have been to put in place a time limit which we do not have in ...

6 Oct 2016 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, I rise to support this Policy but I would like the following to be considered in moving forward. First, there is the issue of poverty among children and the fact that we do not invest much in human development, particularly in our education. Much of the money that we invest in our education goes towards payment of salaries of teachers and other Government employees in that sector. There is very little that is invested in matters that can help our children not engage in child labour. I strongly believe that investments in education will be the best way ...
