  • 10 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this time to contribute to this very important Motion which is detailing how we can revive our industries to be able to grow the economy of this country. A number of textile industries have closed down in the recent past. I do not know if this only happened in my county. About five industries that used to process textile products were closed down. I want to believe that this happened also in other towns of this country. This has led to unemployment, poverty and increased crime among other evils. We have ... view

  • 10 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I would like to thank the Senator for that information. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, when are we going to believe in ourselves as a country; that we can produce items and consume them ourselves? I think that this is the right time to do so. I congratulate the Mover, who was my university lecturer, for bringing this wonderful Motion. I support it 100 per cent and want to believe that everybody who will make a contribution to this Motion will take it seriously. If we do not revive these industries, we may not achieve the Millennium ... view
  • 2 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to second the amendment as moved by the Senator for West Pokot. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, according to the Report of this Committee, I want to believe that these are the recommendations of the Controller of Budget and not those of the Committee. This is because the Report just highlights what has already been done by the Controller of Budget. We need the Committee to come up with its own recommendations. The Constitution gives this House powers to oversight the county governments on matters devolution. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this chance to share some three or four points on this issue of KeRRA. I want to believe that in the revenue allocation that we voted in this House regarding monies going to counties, roads were also included. What we are saying is that we want these functions to be transferred since the money was already in the Budget. Regarding the issue of awarding new contracts, the Government said that they should allocate at least 20 per cent of the contracts to the youth. If these functions are not The electronic ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I will also take this time to congratulate the Senator for West Pokot who was also my lecturer at the University for bringing such a wonderful Motion at this time when we have county governments in place. I will start by saying that wazee wa mitaa or village elders have suffered. From what I know, village elders have no offices. That is one. Two, they do not have any money. They only get something small when a cow is stolen from a family. He is forced to come in to try and resolve the ... view
  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I know that time is not on our side. Madam Temporary Speaker, first and foremost, let me pass my heartfelt condolences to the loved ones who lost their lives. I also wish those who are in hospitals a quick recovery. Madam Temporary Speaker, secondly, Kenya is going through the most difficult time in history. We have witnessed our people being killed brutally in our country. I want to appreciate what the Government, led by the Head of State and security organs are doing to contain this situation. We must be vigilant as Kenyans because our ... view
  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: devil and the devil was defeated 6,000 years ago. I want to assure Kenyans that the devil has no place in Kenya. We must be vigilant and work as a team right from our village, to the counties up to the constituencies. Security starts within us because the Government alone cannot do that. We must join hands together to fight this vice. Otherwise, if these people think that they will stop our noble job of pursuing the Al Shabaab in Somali, they are in for a rude shock. We will not stop; we will pursue them until we ensure that ... view
  • 31 Jul 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for giving me this time to make my contribution as far as this issue of hospitals in Kenya is concerned. The first thing I would like to point out is the issue of lack of capacity in our hospitals. Many of our public hospitals may not attract the most qualified men and women to serve there because of the remuneration. As we consider how to monitor the way hospitals should be doing their jobs to ensure that the lives of our people are protected, we should also consider remuneration for the staff. This is a ... view
  • 31 Jul 2013 in Senate: Secondly, I would like to say that our people are poor and this is a fact. If the Government at any given time will offer free medical services to all people in this country, then that will be the beginning of the transformation of the lives of our people. At the end of the day, most people at home cannot afford healthcare in any other hospital except in a district hospital. We have a situation where most of our doctors serve in more than one hospital. You will find that a doctor is employed to serve in a public hospital ... view
