A time has come for this country to move forward by recognizing that we have a new Constitution. We must re-look at how the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) behaves, the role of the Attorney-General and the role of the legal advisers to the President, so that this country can be peaceful once and for all. Over the weekend, we had a House leadership meeting or retreat in Mombasa, which was more of a public nature because the media attended. • 23 Feb 2016 in National Assembly: Mombasa, there have been reports about Members of Parliament asking to be paid salaries after the date of the General Elections of 8th August next year. Hon. Speaker, I am baffled because you and I, and many Members here were in that meeting for two days consistently, and the meeting was generally open to the media. Some of the media persons are parliamentary news reporters and I imagine they were invited and facilitated using public funds. The only thing which touched on elections and departure of Members of Parliament was the date of election, which is a responsibility of this House. Generally, the meeting agreed that there is very little that can be done and that preparation must be made towards the election date of 8th August, 2017. • 18 Feb 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, it is interesting that the Leader of the Majority Party would mention those parties. We have never heard some of them. Should it not have been that four years after the Political Parties Act was established, the Registrar of Political Parties should have struck off these briefcase parties from the register? Today in the morning, I was listening to an FM station and I heard a certain lady calling herself a party leader. I am wondering whether the term “party leader” belongs to everybody. • 18 Feb 2016 in National Assembly: As it has been alluded to by the Leader of the Majority Party, this is a requirement of the law. We need to go further and alert Members that by 27th August 2016, we must have dealt with all the constitutional Bills that the Constitution of Kenya 2010 requires us to deal with. So, it will be nice at this juncture to tell the membership of this House that very soon, we will be coming back to ask for longer and more sittings because the Bills are numerous. view
