Every weekend, I fly to Kisumu and back to Nairobi. You do not expect to see me at the tail of the flight. I pay through the nose for the 30-minute flight because I pay Kshs40,000 upfront. There is nothing to write home about it but I am very patriotic. Every time I fly out of the country, even if it is at the behest of my mentor, the Speaker, for a committee retreat, I make sure that I use KQ or KLM. This is because I want to add value to my country but little did I know that ...

It is very sad. We must delve into this issue with a lot of sobriety. If there will be a committee to investigate it, let us not have people who have jittered minds – those who when they hear Raila’s name, they get mad. I understand there is a family that is believed to own most of the aeroplanes that ply through the local and European routes. These people should be called here so that Kenyans can know the truth. We should do something that will once and for all make KQ the Pride of Africa. If those who stole ...

This is very bad because we have very young people who have promising careers at the airline. Every time the airline is disturbed financially, those young people are “offloaded” and yet some people continue “plucking” money, going on holidays and living in utter comfort. We will not allow them to continue doing that. This Parliament should not be used as a rubberstamp. We are talking as if the Jubilee Government did not appoint the Cabinet Secretary in charge of The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained ...

Transport and Infrastructure. What is the Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastucture, Mr. Macharia, doing? What is my friend, Hon. Nkaissery doing? He should summon Lafarge, who are on holiday. They should be locked up without bail. Our children want employment. The Government set up KQ using public resources. We have continued to allocate the airline a lot of money although it is a private company. We have exercised a lot of consideration for it. We have a few people who are sacred cows. They want to loot and run away with our money. We will not allow them to ...

Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for pleading my case. My neighbour thought that we should be considered because we have a burning issue jointly with him which links up with the Motion we are discussing. Peculiarly enough, I want to be the only voice that is going to oppose this Motion because I believe a time is coming when I will be confronting a similar problem that is occasioned by this kind of agreement.

I am saying this because we have a lot of trade imbalances. This opportunity is going to create room for unscrupulous businessmen to flood our country with many unwanted goods because we are going to export 22 per cent and they are ready to bring 100 per cent. The Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives, I want to put you on notice that the Cabinet Secretary has authorised the sugar companies in western Kenya to import raw sugar when our sugarcane is rotting in the factory. These millers cannot buy their own farms and develop---

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I also wish to add my voice in support of this Bill, albeit the brouhaha that was precipitated by the issue of party- hopping. I want to take this opportunity to warn this House that in future, when you have an opportunity to nominate Members to a particular select committee, it is not an opportunity for them to push for their personal interests. This thing was about the IEBC. We expected issues to do with IEBC. There are Members who deviated, went overboard and brought in extraneous matters. What we have been ...

be denied an opportunity to vote. We do not want people to miss such that elections are not conducted. We know the circumstances under which this Committee was formed. We expected them to do a very good job - slightly better than they did. Members should take time and read the Report conclusively so that if at all the Bills are tabled, we can debate them from a point of information and not fumble. Those of us who have had the experience of unfair nominations do not want to debate much about it. I just want to take this opportunity ...
