  • 1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly: Corruption has brought down many countries and so we should take this matter seriously. It is also important for us to understand the fact that as we go for this recess, there is some pending business; some very serious business which is pending. That is the business of constituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Until and unless the IEBC is fully constituted to the satisfaction of all Kenyans, we cannot sit and rest easy. We know the IEBC is the only body charged with the serious responsibility of managing elections. Therefore, it is my prayer also that during ... view

  • 1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly: Amina Mohamed to become the first Kenyan chairperson of the African Union Commission. It is good and I wish her well. But we must also ask ourselves how that campaign is being run because this is an era that calls for transparency and openness. There is a lot of money being spent in this process. This Parliament needs to be told when we come back which vote head is being used and how much has been spent on that exercise so far. It is important but it must also be understood that as we seek to have one of our ... view
  • 29 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I have risen to put the record straight. Firstly, Hon. Kaluma is a very valuable member of ODM. Having said that, the scuffle that happened between Hon. Kaluma and the other gentleman is something which is internal and we are addressing it thoroughly. Therefore, the comments by Hon. Duale are misplaced because ODM is a very organised and orderly party. view

  • 23 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, if you could also ask Hon. Shidiye and the Chairman of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund(NG-CDF) Committee to take their rightful positions because I am addressing a very serious matter, I would appreciate . view
  • 23 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: Yes, Hon. Deputy Speaker. He seriously needs my input on this Bill. The matter of refugees is a matter that goes beyond the boundaries of our country. It is truly an international matter and it is gratifying that we have seen it fit to enact legislation that is going to guide the process of management of refugees. • 23 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: Refugees do not just happen, they are a consequence of instability and civil strife in various countries. The matter of instability of nations is not a matter that is confined to specific parts of the world or countries. It is a matter which can happen anywhere as history has proved. This country has borne the brunt of the menace of refugees for a long time. This is because of the fact that our neighbouring countries have had issues within their territories and that has necessitated and resulted into their citizens leaving their countries and crossing over in our country. Hon. ... view

  • 23 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: I want to conclude by bringing up the matter of foreign policy. The way we handle refugees, in one way or the other, reflects our policy on foreign affairs. This country has hosted, and it continues to host, people from Sudan and South Sudan. We are aware that some political leaders of South Sudan have lived in this country for so long. The Government is blatantly taking sides in the South Sudan conflict by basically branding the people aligned to the SPLA-in- Opposition, led by comrade Riek Machar, aggressors while hobnobbing with the people who are supporting the Government of ... view
