  • 23 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: A lot of these resources are gobbled up through corruption. We have had very many cases this ending financial year of mega corruption in this country. I hope something will happen to change the situation as we move to the new financial year. Otherwise, I support the Bill and look forward to a more enhanced economic growth. Thank you and God bless you. view
  • 22 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. At the outset, I also wish to support this very progressive Bill. This Bill could not have come at a better time. We are going to defend and support it very vigorously on our side. It is a fact that women have been disadvantaged over time on account of traditions and cultures. Therefore, the only way you can bring them up to the same level as men is through affirmative action such as what this Bill is proposing. Any person who means well for this country must support this Bill. It is not possible for us ... view
  • 22 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: development of a nation. As it was aptly put by Hon. Wamalwa, this Bill has the strongest support of our coalition. In fact, our party leader, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is very passionate about this principle of gender equality. He fully supports this principle of two-thirds gender rule. Therefore, I expect that we will pass this Bill without a lot of problems. We expect it to go through so that this 11th Parliament can go down in history as a Parliament that enacted a legislation that has enabled the gender principle to be embedded in our way of life. ... view

  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, my point of order has nothing to do with the Bill that is about to be moved by my good friend, Hon. Jude Njomo. view
  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: We have a serious issue that I need your guidance on as a House. I would like to urge you to allow one or two Members to contribute to this matter before you can give guidance. As we speak, our sovereignty as a country is under attack. It is on record that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has called off the voter registration exercise in Migingo Island, which is part of Nyatike Constituency in Migori County. It is also on record that Ugandan security officers have arrested Kenyans--- view

  • 9 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I just want to make very few comments. Kenya is a recognised multi-party democracy. In most established democracies, political parties evolve and become institutions that are integral in the management of democracy. We are looking at a situation where eventually, Kenya will have at most two or three political movements that would compete against one another for political power. The only way you can achieve that is by reining in those briefcase political parties. Unless we come down hard on those briefcase parties, we will not eliminate what we call political corruption in this ... view
  • 8 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I really appreciate your guidance but let us try to look at this matter in the right context. I happen to sit in the Committee chaired by Hon. Amina Abdalla. I really sympathise with my Chair, Hon. Abdalla. You can say for sure that there is no Opposition or Government in the House but the reality of the matter is that the Government is represented by the leadership of that coalition. If you start seeing discordance in the manner amendments are proposed on Bills which have gone through the Committee ably chaired by a Member of ... view
  • 8 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: I wish you would indulge me more. It is very frustrating for the Committee to go through the motions then the Chief Whip of the Majority Party comes up with draconian amendments that go against the letter and spirit of the Constitution. That is basically rubbishing the work the Committee has done and rubbishing the work Kenyans did in enacting the Constitution. It is actually encouraging impunity. Therefore, as we proceed--- view
