I did not see the need--- The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor.

Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move:- THAT, clause 2 be amended by deleting the definition of “journalist” and substituting therefor the following new definition— “journalist” means any person who is recognised as such by the Council upon fulfillment of a criteria set by the Council. Clause 2 deals with definitions. We just wanted to make sure that it is clear who a journalist actually is as per the wishes of the Media Council. Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I really do not understand why we should be going this direction. With all due respect to you as the Chair, there was a withdrawal of an amendment, which amendment had been proposed by the Chair of the committee? He is the one who spoke here. The committee cannot speak on behalf of the committee.

Yes. My only concern here is that we might be setting a real bad precedent, very bad practice for the future. In the previous committee sittings, indeed, I did withdraw some amendments.
