Jane Agnes Wanjira Machira

Her constituents in Laikipia County fondly call her "Mama Amani", long before she joined politics, she was already a peace crusader in a county where cattle rustling is the order of the day.

  • 27 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I also want to comment on the first Petition by Ferdinand Nyongesa. The Petition is not only timely, but also informs the big four agenda for the Jubilee Government. It as well informs the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the issue of engineers. It also touches on housing, manufacturing and roads. There must be an annex even as we scrutinise it, with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to ensure that there is a linkage. You know, with the exit of Matiang’i, we have no doubt that Amina will do that, so that the engineers ... view
  • 21 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I beg to give notice of the following Motion: THAT, aware that every birth in Kenya must be registered by the Department of Civil Registration and documented through a Birth Certificate; further aware that subsequent registration of citizens and acquisition of documentation such as identity cards and passports, school admissions, registration of exams, and access to opportunities such as employment depends and relies on Birth Certificates; deeply concerned that the Department of Civil Registration Services has over time experienced backlogs in the issuance of Birth Certificates as a result of among other factors, inadequate personnel, unwillingness to embrace ... view
  • 14 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: sheria ambayo itatengewa pesa kwenye Bajeti. Ziko Nyeri, Thika, ... view
  • 28 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I join my colleagues in supporting this Special Motion on the appointment of the two gentlemen to the very critical State Department for Devolution and Planning. It is high time we got the Government rolling out services speedily to Kenyans. This Ministry holds a very special place. It is the one that holds and hosts the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). The KNBS is the only credible social source of statistics in this country. I would hope that these gentlemen will get a good working relationship with other Ministries, so that we do ... view
  • 28 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: the Ministry of Health, so that they can inform policy. When we talk about women who die from unsafe abortions, we want to see those statistics transmitted to the Ministry of Health to inform policy. The other issue which is very critical and very interlinked is the issue of climate change. The Ministry of Devolution and Planning has other roles to play and not just to provide relief food. There has to be proper planning as we integrate Vision 2030 and the African Agenda 2063 for the 50 years of transformation that was adopted by African countries as we integrate ... view
  • 20 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support the adoption of this Sessional Paper on the National Policy on Climate Change Finance. We have been here before to adopt this Sessional Paper. It is not actionable until we put our money where our mouth is. It is not actionable until we put resources in it. I do not think there is anyone in this House who has not seen the effects of climate change. Looking back at when we were growing up and comparing it to the current times, as other Members have said, it is totally different ... view
  • 20 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: devolve this issue of climate change because it sounds very global and very big. We must break it down to issues of water, rivers drying, hailstorms, rising sea levels and rising temperatures. Let us break it down so that members of the community can understand it. On the issue of public participation, I do not think we are at a point where we have been able to get a framework to involve our communities. I am hoping that some of these resources can go to that, not only for public participation to comply with the Constitution, but for effective public ... view
  • 8 Nov 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me an opportunity. I rise to support this Motion. In fact, it is long overdue because we have had high political temperatures which have prevented us from giving some of these matters good attention. I think it is high time we passed the names to this Committee. I am a young parliamentarian and I served in the 11th Parliament where 50 of us were below the age of 35 years at that time. I want to tell the young men and women here that out there it is not going to be easy. ... view
