  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, just yesterday, the Committee was discussing the Magarini issue and we agreed that we are going to meet the hon. Member next issue because the issue is quite complex and there is something we are expecting from the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Lands. So, the Member will be called by the Committee next week for a brief. view
  • 4 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I am a Member of the Committee on Lands and I undertake to communicate this to the Committee through the Chair. view
  • 3 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I also rise to support this timely Motion by hon. T.G. Ali. It is true that we have had droughts of different magnitudes resulting in damage in different parts of the country. Schools have been made inaccessible; roads have been destroyed and even access to health facilities has been impeded. Livelihoods have been disrupted and the response that we get from Government agencies has not been good. Humanitarian organizations have also been working to help our people. We all believe that things can be done better. There was a promise for action by the former ... view
  • 3 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, just the other day, we heard in the news that Kijabe Mission Hospital, which is in my constituency, was actually inaccessible. It has actually stopped a lot of construction work which was going on because the road that connects Mai Mahiu to Kijabe has been impassable for the last three months. We are saying that the former Ministry of Special Programmes promised to release money, but three months are gone and nothing has happened. The planting season is already over and there will be more ripple effects. It is high time we had this done in a ... view
  • 26 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity. My name is hon. John Karanja Kihagi. I want to acknowledge the presence of Fahari Academy from Naivasha who are here with us. Fahari Academy is a school which my wife and I are directors and, we sponsored quite a number of needy students. So, when hon. Kinoti brought this Motion of a databank on needy students or pupils, it actually touched my heart. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to say that we have all been out there giving bursaries for the last few weeks and we have ... view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I also rise to support the Motion, of course, with serious reservations; based on your earlier warning about the defeat of the amendment. The amendment was for a good reason but, as a reasonable hon. Member, I understand and appreciate the concern that the amendment would have defeated the main agenda of the Motion. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: I come from a constituency which is largely ASAL within a county which is agriculturally productive. Therefore, my constituency is totally disadvantaged in that it is not classified by the relevant Ministry as an ASAL area. In Nakuru County, Njoro, Molo and Kuresoi are highly productive agricultural areas. However, as you move from what even hon. (Dr). Shaban talked about; there are areas which are dry. If you move to the lower side of Mai Mahiu, Longonot, Suswa and Gilgil, you pass through an expansive area of dry land, which is not recognised as an ASAL area just because we ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, Sir, for noticing me. I had given myself an ultimatum to make my maiden Speech this week. My names are John Karanja Kihagi. I wish to congratulate you on your election and the entire Membership of this House for being elected to this prestigious House. I also want to thank the people of Naivasha for honouring and electing me as their Member of Parliament. In the morning, it was vogue for people to say how many votes they received. I realized that none of those who spoke got even a half of what I got. I ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: Our Constitution recognizes the right to life. Indeed, the moment you are almost losing your life is when you have had an emergency – say an accident. For women, it is at the point of delivery. So, it will be a mockery of the Constitution if we do not guarantee that right. At that point, it is criminal for anybody to deny you the right to treatment and more so, a medical practitioner who should save your life as opposed to endangering it. I view
