  • 6 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I rise to ask for a statement regarding the rampant cases of child labour in garbage collection in various dumpsites across the country. Pursuant to Standing Order No.44 (2) (c), I wish to request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the rampant cases of child labour in the garbage collection business and sorting of recyclable garbage at dumpsites around the country in a business commonly referred to as ‘taka ni pesa.” Article 53 of the Constitution of Kenya recogniSes the rights of all children to be protected from ... view
  • 6 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I rise to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection the following Question: - (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary confirm whether M/s. WPP Scangroup Company PLC, which is a full-service creative transformation company engaged in marketing, communication, brand stewardship, media investment management and consumer research, complies with the labour laws and regulations in its operations? (ii) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain why the Company has particularly since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic been replacing majority of Kenya’s top creative minds and staff with foreign personnel, most who are coming from employment agencies, for example ... view
  • 6 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I am conscious of time and so, I will be very brief in my support for the ratification of this Protocol. Firstly, I would like to commend the Committee that has prepared this Report. Secondly, I will single out an individual in this House, in the name of Hon. Sankok, for the amazing work he has done in the representation of the over six million Kenyans who depend on him to give them a voice on the Floor of this House. The ratification that we are doing is important to my mind ... view
  • 5 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for this one minute. What you are being invited to do is not something strange and it will not be a first. At this preliminary stage, you are being invited to make a decision on a matter of constitutionality that touches on Article 10 on the principles that the Constitution dictates. You are also being invited to make a ruling on whether sufficient public participation happened on this Bill. Proceeding without looking at this preliminary issue is inviting this House to participate in an illegality because it is required by even our laws in this Parliament ... view

  • 29 Sep 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Speaker. A lot has been said on this issue. What I need to add here is that a week ago, my 11-year-old daughter was elected president of her primary school. This is a primary school that conducted an election that was overseen by the IEBC. A simple primary school conducts a very good election that is overseen by the IEBC. If primary schools conduct good, fair and free elections, I do not see the reason why a university would be unable to conduct a free and fair election. It is at the university where we ... view

  • 28 Sep 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Chairman. The difference between my definition and what is being defined by the Chairperson is the term “persons living with disabilities”. We are doing this because I want to harmonise it with the terminology used in the Constitution. Hon. Sankok will agree with me that in the Constitution we have nobody defined as “person living with disability”. So, the difference is the word “living”. My definition refers to persons with disabilities (PWDs). view
  • 28 Sep 2021 in National Assembly: I am coming to that Hon. Chairman. If she can modify her definition… view
  • 28 Sep 2021 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairman, you are doing my work because I was just explaining that to Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, my neighbour, that the new definition that the Chairperson has given is in line with my definition and hence it becomes an amendment I can support. view
