  • 12 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: The reason why I am saying so is because we take very few students to high school because we do not have boarding facilities in Turkana County. I am telling the Ministry of Education, if they want Turkana County to realise the importance or the benefits of free education, they must make us have many boarding primary schools. We also want to appreciate the Cabinet Secretary for education on selection this year. They have done very well. Some of us from Turkana County have never taken more than two or three students to national schools but this year we have ... view
  • 10 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. First of all, I want to thank hon. Lekuton for bringing this amendment. Most of the time when we make our laws, we do not consider our children, and that is why many of them are dying on our roads. We need to make a law to compel all our road contractors to make sure that traffic signs are erected to protect our children. Some contractors do not put those signs. Because of that, some drivers drive at very high speed on roads and sometimes knock down children along roads. Concerning school transport, some ... view
  • 26 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. It is good that this Bill has come at this time when some of us are coming to Parliament for the first time. I want to thank the Mover of the Bill. The object or the purpose of the Bill is to promote networking among the former Members. I have seen former Members of Parliament back in the village. They are lonely, exhausted and living terrible lives without anybody to encourage them. When we have such a society, the former Members can come together to encourage one another. Even after you have lost your ... view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support this Bill. You are aware that in Turkana there is a tree called Mathenge . This Mathenge has brought a lot of harm and destruction in Turkana. Now that we have this Bill, I hope the Government and those conserving the environment will see how to eliminate Mathenge from Turkana. view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: In this Bill, we need to make sure that, as my colleague, hon. (Ms.) Ombaka said, courses on environment are taught as part of early childhood development education (ECDC), so that children can grow knowing that environment is very important and must be taken care of. If you go to some counties, you will be surprised to see a gentleman, or lady, throwing away bottles anyhow and anywhere. We need to discipline such people as well as encourage counties to come up with laws in their counties on environment. view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: For instance, last week Uasin Gishu County Government came up with a law which says that if you spit on a street, you will be arrested and pay a fine of Ksh10,000. That will at least curb this indiscipline in relation to the environment. We need to encourage communities to participate in tree planting by motivating them through a programme under which we pay some little money to whoever plants a tree. You may pay such a person Kshs.300 a month. That will motivate very many people to plant trees on their home compounds. If we come up with such ... view

  • 19 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Yes, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I support the amendment. We need to lower the last one because those people do not get a lot of money in terms of salaries. In case this happens, many of them will go to jail. I wish we could reduce it up to Kshs200,000 or Kshs300,000. view

  • 19 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. This is one of the professions in medical fraternity that was not recognized and now we will be having a body that will be helping in making sure that this profession is recognized. I grew up in Turkana and there were very few guys who wanted to join this profession. Why? Because The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
