  • 6 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to ask the Minister for Information and Communications the following Question by Private Notice. (a) Could the Minister confirm that 260 employees of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) have been retrenched? (b) Could he table the list of those affected giving a breakdown according to departments? (c) What was the criteria used to select employees for the retrenchment exercise? view
  • 6 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, while I may not want to dispute the explanation given by the Minister, could this exercise not have been done in a more humane way? The affected employees were neither given notice nor even given an explanation as to why they were being sacked. They were given letters on a Friday and told to vacate on a Monday. Is this the way that this Government wants to operate? view
  • 6 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I have to clear my name before I ask the last question. view
  • 6 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I insist that I should defend myself, first, because the allegations that have been made here are completely false and I want to prove to him that they are false. view
  • 6 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I will reluctantly ask a question because I feel that my reputation has been put on the block here. The allegations are completely false. I never employed Mr. Ponda, Mr. Kiti and the other gentleman. view
  • 6 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Could the Assistant Minister confirm or deny that this retrenchment had nothing to do with the criteria that he has mentioned, but has everything to do with the fact that the 1892 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES July 6, 2006 Government wants to replace these people with politically-correct individuals in readiness for the next General Elections? view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Lands:- (a) whether he is aware that Plot No.839 in Tezo Roka Settlement Scheme on which Kararacha Central Primary School is located, is yet to receive its letter of allotment despite having met all legal requirements; (b) whether he is also aware that a donor who was willing to assist the school financially has refused to proceed unless the ownership issue is resolved; and, (c) when the Government will issue the school with documents of ownership. view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as much as I understand the position of the Ministry through the answer the Assistant Minister has given, I would like to inform him that the pupils of that school will sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination this year. I do not think it is fair to leave this problem to the local leadership. Could the Assistant Minister intervene in this matter by assuming ownership of that plot and compensate that individual so that he can move to another area? There is no way we can demolish that school to give way to ... view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the problem of this school is similar to the problem many schools in my area face. Almost 90 per cent of the schools in Bahari Constituency are "squatters". I brought this issue to this House so that the Government can do something. Could the Assistant Minister tell this House what he will do with the schools that are built on squatter land? This is because the issue of a title deed does not arise when a school is a "squatter". view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the following Motion:- THAT, aware that cashew nut farming is an important economic activity at the Coast; considering the fact that farmers are facing a lot of problems due to lack of comprehensive legislation to regulate farming, processing and marketing of the product; cognizant of the fact that farmers continue to destroy cashew nut trees because of low prices and frustrations as a result of infiltration into the industry by unscrupulous middlemen, this House do grant leave to introduce a Bill for an Act of Parliament entitled The Cashew Nut Development Bill ... view
