  • 23 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I held discussions with the Chief Executive this morning and one of the things that we have agreed is that any intern working in the company, whether in the engineering or any other active area, will, as much as possible, be kept away from that kind of situation. They will try to put them in offices. However, in engineering and production areas, there is a limit as to what we can do. The Managing Director has undertaken to discuss the issue internally and see how best to protect lives in the company, especially of interns, who are ... view
  • 23 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, one of the conditions of interns coming to the New KCC is that a student will not be eligible for remuneration. Secondly, when an intern is involved in an accident while on duty, the company will not be held responsible. They should be insured against this by their universities. Thirdly, the student will have to abide by the company rules and regulations. Those are the guidelines that we operate under as universities send students to us. view
  • 23 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, because of the arrangement under which an intern comes to the New KCC Limited, which I have explained, I am not in a position to accept liability or negligence. I am very serious in trying to do whatever I can to help this young lady’s family along the lines I have described. I will be very happy to follow up on the leads that hon. Nyamweya has given me to find out if there is a way in which we can help. However, at the moment, I cannot accept liability or negligence. I am prepared to follow ... view
  • 13 Apr 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, you will recall that I answered this question recently. We tabled some documents which the hon. Member was to look at. I, too, was to look at the documents that had been tabled by the hon. Member for Gichugu. So, for record purposes, let me repeat what I said. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. view

  • 13 Apr 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not have with me a document that proves what the hon. Member has requested. But I have information that tells me that the local NGOs engaged in public corruption, ethics and Government watch failed to turn up in court several times until the case died. After checking of the documents that the hon. Member had presented to me and discussing them with her, it would appear that this case is not yet dead, although the information available to me was that it was dead. I will be very happy to countercheck what the hon. Member ... view
  • 13 Apr 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the sake of record, at that particular time, the Harambee Sacco had serious problems. In fact, it was not meeting its obligations in many ways. The Mwaliko Commission of Inquiry came as a result of agitation of membership who wanted action taken. To some extent, it is true what the hon. Member is saying. Recommendations as to the qualifications and modalities on how to hold elections were made. It also made several view

  • 13 Apr 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I run a democratic institution. So, I will be very happy to meet them because this Sacco is very important. It is the largest Sacco in Africa. Therefore, I would not want it to have any problem. Its membership includes staff from the military, police, and officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President. So, 97,000 people are members of this organization. So, I will be happy to look at that letter. Having said that, a lot of information is old information--- view
