  • 21 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I want to take this chance to join my colleagues in congratulating the Committee for the good job they are doing. We need good regulations and laws for doing things. Drones are good. I remember sometime back I went to China and bought very good drones for the entertainment of my children. I was not allowed to pass through the airport with the drones due to lack of proper regulations in this country. I take this chance to support the Committee and say that we need regulations in this ... view
  • 3 May 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to the important Speech of the President. The humbleness of the President yesterday when giving his good speech was commendable. It was not just a normal speech. It was a good one. view
  • 3 May 2018 in National Assembly: His Excellency the President talked more about reconciliation and forgiveness. As Members of Parliament and leaders, it is high time we followed suit on forgiveness and reconciliation because we need to see our country move forward. We need to support forgiveness because for our economy to grow, we need each other. I remember last year after the elections, there was a lot of hatred and businesses went down. Safaricom Company which feeds more than one million families has more than 150,000 M-pesa agents and has employed more than 6,000 Kenyans. Most people lost their jobs due to election violence. I ... view
  • 3 May 2018 in National Assembly: The President also mentioned service delivery to our society. He was clear about security. It reminded me of my constituency, Kaiti. There is a small village called Mitini where there is a lot of insecurity. The Speech encouraged me because I now know that my people will get services from the Government. It is also important for us elected leaders to support the President’s delivery of services. In the field of health, in my county of Makueni, my Governor, Mr. Kivutha Kibwana, rolled out a universal healthcare programme. I was happy yesterday to see the President supporting the universal healthcare, ... view

  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to second the Motion by Hon. Rose Museo, who is the county representative of Makueni. She is also my county Member. It is an honour and a privilege to second the critical Motion that addresses major ignorance in our society. I must commend Hon. Rose Museo for attempting to expose and address the issue that people feel should be hidden away from public glare. It is high time we addressed a sensitive issue such as mental illness. How long shall we keep quiet about it? I have experienced that problem ... view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: All over Kenya, mental problems are not recognised and given the attention they deserve. Who knows the extent they contribute to the level of crime in our country? How many rape cases, killings and murders have occurred due to mental problems? This is an issue we cannot ignore because it is becoming a challenge in our country. I honestly think that mental problem should be accorded a high status as a national threat and a disaster. As my honourable colleague has mentioned, there have been lethal mass shooting in the USA. The latest calamity left 58 people dead. In their ... view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: are ignoring a time bomb. We seem to imagine it is only HIV, cancer and road accidents that threaten us. That is wrong. Mental health of Kenyans should be our biggest worry. We should ask ourselves: Are Kenyans individually and collectively mentally healthy? view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: I support the new regulation by the Government that requires that before you acquire a firearm, you have to produce a letter from a doctor confirming that you are mentally fit. It has come to my attention that we tend to ignore some of these challenges, but this is a serious issue. We need to take it seriously together. We must, as leaders, initiate and implement programmes and interventions that will address this forgotten issue. Let me pose the question: How do we even determine whether our leaders are mentally fit to lead our country? What happens when leaders exhibit ... view
