As a Committee, we have summoned the Nairobi County officials next week to give us further clarification. We, therefore, request for at least two weeks. We agreed to meet them on Thursday, which is the convenient day. We can give the answer in two weeks time. view

We have agreed that on Thursday morning, we could invite her to a meeting for further interrogations. We still urge for more time. The directions that you had given are sufficient. If we invite her and she is satisfied, it will be good. We cannot do it before the two weeks. view

  • 5 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, first and foremost, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved. To lose a loved one in that particular manner is shocking. I once attended a conference in Harare, Zimbabwe in 2008 and watched a video on extra-judicial killings and police brutality in Kenya. I protested because I saw things that I could not imagine could happen in my country. However, after this incident I am left quiet, embarrassed and ashamed. As the saying goes, “where there is smoke, there is fire.” Half of the country would not have been protesting if there was nothing wrong.   • 30 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Chairperson, Sir, I beg to move:- THAT, Clause 3 be amended- (a) in paragraph (a) by deleting the words “the women” appearing immediately after the words “rights for” and substituting therefor the words “every person”; (b) by deleting paragraph (b); (c) by deleting paragraph (c) and substituting therefor the following new paragraph- (c) create an enabling environment for the reduction in maternal morbidity, child morbidity and child mortality rate; (d) in paragraph (d) by deleting the words “women and children” appearing immediately after the words “services to” and substituting therefor the words “every person”.   • 30 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Chairperson, Sir, I beg to move:- THAT, Clause 4 be deleted and substituted with the following Clause- 4. The National and County Governments shall ensure accessibility of family planning services including contraceptive methods, counseling, and free information and education The purpose for amending the words “available” was to replace it with “accessibility” to avoid ambiguity and also as defined under the definitions. Accessibility was defined under definitions as ability of an individual to obtain or receive appropriate safe, accountable, effective, quality health information and services. So, it is for clarity purposes. view
