  • 19 Nov 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, agriculture helps to reduce poverty and helps the economy grow. It is also the backbone of many other sectors, including the industrial sector. The reason I support this Motion is because Kenya will be headed into some danger zone where the country will continue to be poor and the inflation rate will continue to be high. That will certainly not make our country competitive. If the agricultural sector is not nurtured properly, then the farmers will cease to become competitive. They will not bring in competitive yields and will not be able to get modern equipment ... view
  • 6 Nov 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I stand to support this Motion because of its importance. It concerns very special citizens of this country. When we lay a good foundation for our children, we are sure to bring up very good citizens who will be responsible to ensure that the economy grows well. They cannot do it on their own and that is the reason why I am supporting that the national Government recruits, trains and deploys teachers for pre-primary education within the counties. We know very well that when ... view
  • 30 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I wish to support the Motion. I commend the Committee on Energy, Roads and Transportation for their expeditious, courageous and wonderful work, having been sworn-in in March and barely before the ink dried, they were out in June doing a commendable job. That is well done. Madam Temporary Speaker, I support this Motion because it works towards improving the economy of Kenyans by bringing in new ideas. This is a very daring one, in an area which we should say is relatively new to Kenyans. I, therefore, urge that the Committee comes up with a ... view
  • 22 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute and to support this Motion. In the past, it is very clear that the successive governments have not allocated adequate budgets or funding to the health departments. Looking at this good report, I am sure that they have gone and interrogated the issues in this report. Once approved and implemented, this report will give ease or give access to high quality health care. Once the facilities are upgraded, then Kenyans will get quality medical care. It has not been fair to make Kenyans travel far and wide, locally, ... view
  • 22 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you very much, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute in support of this Motion. This Motion is quite timely and I believe that it will highlight the plight of the former employees of the defunct local authorities. Madam Temporary Speaker, it is very important for the TA to come up with a clear framework, adhere to the Constitution and protect the interests and rights of these Kenyans, who probably, happened to be at the right place at the wrong time. They are amongst the first casualties of devolution. It should be a smooth transition, as ... view
  • 22 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me the opportunity. I do not know when we will stop saying that we are still learning, but every day is a learning day and knowledge is power. In supporting the amendment, I wish to bring to the attention of the House that currently the national Government is paying the salaries of the former employees of the local authorities wherever they have been deployed or attached. I would also like to urge the national Government to continue doing so. They should not leave those employees half stuck in the mud. This is an ... view
  • 3 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I wish to support this Motion because it is quite clear that this wonder plant that was brought called Prosopis juliflora - the name is foreign – Mathenge is the easier name that we know. At first, when I saw exhibits in court, I thought this was one big joke. The goat looked so ugly. I thought the natives were up to some mischief and were just rebelling. This came up a while ago. It is sad that since then, life in this area ... view
  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute and to support the Motion in the following manner. I wish to join fellow Kenyans and, indeed, the entire world in mourning the people who lost their lives at the Westgate incident which was very tragic. When I heard about the Westgate incident, I thought it was just a usual robbery, but at 4.00 p.m. people were still suffering. That is the time I knew things were getting bad and, indeed, they became worse. The worst thing is that when I watched television and saw the Kenya Police ... view
  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: indeed lost it because they do not know how to live in this world. They do not want to live in harmony with their fellow human beings causing us unnecessary and untold embarrassment and suffering by killing our visitors, killing us. Westgate is a place where we take our children all the time. They celebrate their birthday parties there and so on. So, it could have been any of us. That is the time you realise that as you leave your house and come to the Senate--- Sen. Sonko has told us about the safety of the KICC. It is ... view
  • 16 Jul 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to support this Motion which has been brought by Sen. Zipporah Kittony. It is appropriate since this is a new Government which is coming up with its policies and rules. We, as Kenyans, have suffered very much for many years, especially people who live along water bodies. Others have watched helplessly as their brothers, sisters or fellow Kenyans go through harsh conditions because of our failure of taking strong measures which Senator Zipporah proposes. As we were growing up, I remember President Moi even used to do it personally. He tried to ... view
