  • 26 Mar 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me a chance to contribute to this Motion. I wish to support the Motion and congratulate the RBC for a job well done. I know it has taken them a long time to come up and compile all this report. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is a very good calendar; it gives us clearly when and what we ought to be doing. The main reason I support it is because it has given us the vacation dates. These vacation dates will be well utilized, especially with the Committees which, as we all ... view
  • 26 Mar 2014 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. First and foremost, I wish to say that this is very embarrassing. It is a great shame to our nation. This is a nation which says that it has an education policy of free education until secondary level. The other day the whole country was in an election mode. Every political party had a manifesto indicating that they will offer free education from primary to secondary level but we still see schools withholding certificates. This is hypocrisy and double standards. Do we want to say ... view
  • 12 Mar 2014 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this amendment to the Motion. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, this is a very noble idea. Our officers can be referred to as heroes because of the duties that they perform. They sacrifice their lives. This has become a reality nowadays more than before, because in the past, the security officers were not very busy since Kenya was quite peaceful and the neighbours were not as violent as they are now. Also, terrorism was not a thing of everyday. During the Westgate attack, for example, ... view

  • 26 Feb 2014 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to contribute. I wish to support this Motion. I also thank the Committee for a job well done. I have seen the Report and it is very thorough. The reason I support it is because Kenya is not doing so well as concerns the generation of power or electricity. I believe that, that is why we call ourselves a Third World country. Kenya used to rely heavily on agriculture, but naturally agriculture is not doing so well. We have seen areas like the neighbouring Kiambu County where ... view

  • 4 Dec 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to contribute to this Motion. I thank the Mover of this Motion because this is something of concern to all Kenyans. As leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure that our country is safe. We should ensure that all citizens are safe to live anywhere in the country and that their properties and lives are safe. However, it is of great concern that things are moving from bad to worse. As the Mover of the Motion has said, there is a lot of insecurity in Marsabit. As we all ... view
  • 27 Nov 2013 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to contribute and support this Motion. It takes me back to memory lane when I was a little girl. I had the privilege of growing up in Nairobi and I remember when the First Daughter, Margret Kenyatta, was the Mayor of Nairobi, the city was extremely clean. I am not insisting that women leadership is excellent when it comes to neatness, but it could also be a major factor. By then, the Nairobi City Council had very strict rules and there was no careless littering of garbage everywhere. ... view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I beg to support the Motion by Sen. Chelule and thank her for bringing it. The Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) and the Government of Kenya should take an example from other countries. This is a situation that many countries have dealt with, for example, Brazil. The World Bank invested a lot in Brazil in the 1980s and 1990s to make sure that the direct credit programme was enhanced. This was after acknowledging that agriculture is the backbone of the society. view
