Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance. Electoral violence is a serious issue in this country. As my colleagues have said, it affects the lives of children, elderly people, women and even young men. Electoral violence needs to be condemned by every sensible leader in this country because our country loses a lot every five years. The problem arises as a result of leaders not accepting when they lose in the elections. The Government needs to take action to compensate the people who have been affected because it is the onus of the state to protect lives ...

Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I want to speak to this matter, which is a matter of national concern. Hon. Omuse has just brought it. I think the Ministry is sleeping on the job. On several occasions, we have the 100 per cent transition. Members of Parliament have moved a step ahead and built schools. Last week, we discussed about congestion in schools. These are different times. We have issues now in many schools where students are sleeping in labs. Some of them are even in dining halls, some are even in tents, yet we have built a number of ...

Yes, Hon. Deputy Speaker, I am winding up. I just want to really ask the CS not to sabotage his programmes in the Ministry by trying to stop registration of schools and the 100 per cent transition by not registering new schools and allowing expansion of education in this country.

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. The issues that have been raised by Hon. Abdullswamad Nassir are very vital. I want to ask the Chair of the Departmental of Health to take this response back to the CS. He should know that if other sectors are closed, that is not the solution. This is very simple. For example, if the Government has one million doses to vaccinate people in the matatu sector, why not have people in every stage to do that job. This is because most times, the number of Kenyans travelling is almost the same. There are businessmen, parents taking ...

Hon. Speaker, I wanted to contribute to this Petition because it is a very important one. That is why I was trying to catch your eye. This Petition is quite important knowing very well that there are issues concerning private schools. I want to bring to the attention of the Members that we do not have private students and public students. We are all Kenyans. The fact that exams are marked in a manner that would suggest that they are skewed is very worrying and disturbing for parents across the board. Parents with children in private and public schools all ...

I support the Petition and ask the Departmental Committee on Education and Research to investigate and level the playing field in the education sector. A child in a public school and a child in a private school should be treated fairly and equally.

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I also rise to support the request for a Statement, which members have contributed to. One of the issues I want to put across is that of financing and making sure that 100 per cent transition is a success. With regard to the 100 per cent transition, as an educationist, we say it is better to have a child in school than outside the school. However, in this situation you realise that, currently, the population of Form One students in schools is about one million. It is a normal trend that the student population in Form ...

is not enough. You realise that, even if students are increasing by 100,000 every year in secondary schools, the teachers that we are employing are not enough. They have not even reached 60 per cent of what is required in those schools. This request for a Statement is very important. I urge the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research, the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary to ensure that this is addressed very urgently. Thank you, Hon. Speaker.

Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I rise to support the Bill. I want to commend Hon. Wamunyinyi for bringing this very important Bill. I am a farmer, a representative of farmers and a member of the Sugar Caucus. This country has a huge potential to get a lot of resources from sugar-cane farming. This Bill repeals the Crops Act of 2013 which destroyed the sugar industry. The Act is responsible for making sugar-cane, a very important crop, not to be considered by AFA today. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this ...

This Bill provides, among other things, how to make the Kenyan farmer independent and to have means. When we were growing up, our parents were sugar-cane farmers and they were able to pay our school fees and hospital bills. With the advent of the Crops Act, the sugar industry was relegated to a sub-sector. We realised that the Act effectively brought the sugar industry down. It led to the decline of the management of the Sugar Board. Sugar-cane was considered non- profitable. In fact, many of the sugar barons in this country have made this country a market instead of ...
