  • 13 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, is the Leader of the Majority Coalition in order to mislead this House by claiming that old and vulnerable people in my constituency have gotten money when they have not gotten a cent? I was in the constituency as late as last week. Is he in order to mislead the House? When is he taking the money to my elderly and vulnerable constituents? view
  • 13 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, this is a House of records. The Leader of Majority Coalition is speaking on HANSARD. He has claimed here that I am the owner of the “men in black”. Can he withdraw that remark? I cannot allow that claim to remain on the record of this House when I was not the owner of the “men in black”. We know that the bungling of our elections was done by the URP. It is on record. They were from the URP, it is known. view

  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you. I stand to oppose this Bill because it is unconstitutional. This is a Bill that wants to deny Kenyans their rights that are enshrined in the Constitution. As has been pointed out under Article 10 (2), the issue of patriotism is very clear. The Constitution created devolved systems of government. But still we have one unitary system of government. We must look for a way to put Kenyans together and the only symbol that brings people together is the national flag. If we use this House to make a law that gives the authority for the use of ... view
  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to inform my good friend, hon. Njomo, that the national flag is one of the ways. Article 10(2) talks of patriotism, national unity, sharing and devolution of power, the rule of law, democracy and participation of the people. So, the national flag is very important for purposes of patriotism. Secondly, we cannot create laws here to bar a certain group of people from enjoying certain rights. We must accept that there are two governments that are distinct The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this ... view
  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: and interdependent in this country, and one of them is headed by the governor. If we want to have national unity we must allow the governors to fly the national flag, otherwise very soon you will see counties that create their own flags and then declare their own republics. For example, Kakamega County has a population of 1.8 million people. This population is more than that of some countries of the world. For us to have national unity, the national flag must be used to bring people together. That is the reason I support that the governors should fly the ... view
  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: You do not deny somebody his right for you to be equal to him. If you feel that you are also a State officer and you feel like having a flag on your car, then have it on your car and drive in town. Nobody will deny you that right but do not bring here laws that will make other people look demeaned. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for that reason, I oppose this Bill vehemently and I want governors of this country to actually fly two flags, namely the national flag and a county flag. Do not target governors. Tomorrow ... view
  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, let us not use this Bill to discriminate against other people. It will be unethical, immoral and unacceptable to bring a Bill here that is going to demean a very powerful office like the office of the governor, like His Excellency the Governor of Migori. With those few remarks, I oppose the Bill. Thank you very much. view
