  • 7 May 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, I also want to add my voice on the Bill. I congratulate Sen. Beatrice for this Bill because it is important. We as mothers hold it dearly. I am happy that it covers most of the issues I have always raised. For example, free prenatal care. We were happy with the Linda Mama Programme. Now that it has been withdrawn, we hope that any other that will be introduced by the Government will take care of prenatal care. It also talks about preparation classes, which are necessary for our young children. Girls are getting pregnant at 14, ... view
  • 7 May 2024 in Senate: postpartum depression. Once we have health care services for postpartum depression--- All of us go through that period. It will help women go through this stage. I have also seen provisions on postnatal care. Over 45 per cent of women cannot afford to go to hospitals when they conceive. It is a serious matter. You might find the woman only goes to the hospital when she is about to give birth, yet for the period of eight months, nothing has been observed. It is unfortunate most of the time they lose their children or they are severely malformed because there ... view
  • 17 Apr 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I fully support Sen. Mumma on this issue. Today, having the Cabinet Secretary here, it was sad when I asked about the number of deaths, of which she never gave the data. It seems arrogant that the Government does not give a damn how many deaths we have had ever since the strike occurred. I am sure if we decide to take data, we will get more dead bodies during the strike than ever before. It is unfortunate. Healthcare is devolved to county governments. However, I think Senators, as Members of the national Government, ... view
  • 17 Apr 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. Madam Cabinet Secretary, I have just been wondering; actually, the morgues are now full. The patients are not being attended to and they are dying. Does the Government realize that this is a matter of life and death? How long will this go on, seriously? • 17 Apr 2024 in Senate: we continue losing lives just for the Government to take its time to honor the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)? It really hurts. Number two, we have also realized that interns are normally sent to work in facilities without supervision. This of course is a risk without any professionals being around. I am wondering because we are talking about deaths and interns who are unsupervised. I do not know how this issue is going to be tackled, but, please, our people are dying, Madam Cabinet Secretary. Kindly, do something. view
  • 7 Mar 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also want to celebrate women on occasion of the International Day of Women. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.52(1) to make a Statement on a matter of general topical concern celebrating the achievements and contributions of women from all walks of life, with a special focus on the women leaders in the Kenya Women Senators (KEWOSA), on occasion of the International Day of Women. This is to highlight the resilience, leadership and achievements of these remarkable women in their efforts in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. Mr. ... view
