Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. We do not want a situation where citizens of Kenya are now debating that the only reason why certain companies have been exempted from the punishment meted by the Cabinet Secretary of State, is as a result of business competition. In order for there to be a fair playing ground for everybody, we need to put in place laws and regulations that will guide the process and remove it from the decision of one Cabinet Secretary to a collective decision of an institution that is charged with the responsibility of oversighting matters of betting ...

Mr. Speaker, Sir, on behalf of the people of Baringo and the Senator of Baringo County, being my neighbouring county, I welcome the students from Ruth Kiptui Girls High School. I was aware that they were coming because their teacher had notified me that they would be here today.

I welcome them to this august House and assure them of our serious support in their education endeavours through the efforts of the county government and the national Government in developing Baringo County which is one of the most expansive counties. Part of it is semi-arid while the rest is arable.

These students need no reminder about political and leadership inspiration because the second President of the Republic of Kenya came from Baringo County having been in Parliament and leadership for over 50 years. I encourage them that they have a great future in whatever they want to do whether in leadership or matters of political leadership, economy, science, education or legal practice like some of us here. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I welcome the students once more and assure them that when their Senator is not in this House, the interests of Baringo County are ably represented by my colleagues who are here and particularly myself as a person who has extreme interest in the wellbeing of Kerio Valley counties particularly my neighbours in Baringo County. I thank you.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, there is nothing to celebrate. We cannot celebrate obvious provisions of the Constitution. It is the duty of every citizen of this Republic, particularly those of us who manage such important offices where Kenyans have entrusted in us the responsibility to ensure that we keep doing everything in line with the Constitution, to do so.

As far as this Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill is concerned, I have absolutely nothing to celebrate about it. To follow up on what Sen. Wetangula said, it is just a continuous admission of liability. However, it is even more serious about this cherry-picking that someone will sit somewhere and decide which law they will send to the Senate.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, I even find it worse that leaders who sit in the National Assembly, who should know better the responsibilities bestowed on this House, are the ones going out there to the public to try and bastardise this House. This is the message I have for this nation: we are Senators; we are not Senate. We are temporary, transient and sojourners. We are here for a short-term mission. We will complete what we were called to do in this House and get out, but the Senate and Kenya The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for ...
