  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is a point of debate. view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, even as I abandon it, we need to be honest with the message we are passing to the National Assembly. The embarrassment that has visited the precincts of Parliament is regrettable. As I said earlier, I have an office in this Parliament which I was unable to access two weeks ago. Sen. Wetangula also said that he watched MPs armed themselves to fight. Even as we condemn police presence within Parliament, we must condemn bad behaviour. view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I believe and share the sentiments of the Senate Majority Leader and the Senate Minority Leaders. This is a House that has presidential candidates, two of them from Ford Kenya. From the whispers around this House, we have so many other ambitious presidential candidates for 2032 and beyond. I assure the nation that the Senators who are gathered here today are only armed with their brains to convince their colleagues on the position they believe in and they do not need the police. In fact, when I walked in, I told the police that it was not ... view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, is it in order for Sen. Hassan to attribute a term that is well known to Sen. Gideon Moi to me? Could he have possibly confused me with Sen. Gideon Moi? view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: (Sen. (Prof.) Kindiki): Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am one of the students of Sen. Orengo. So, I will ignore that. In my view, the Elections law is the most urgent matter. As you intimated in your own ruling, that subject to other considerations that could be taking place, or that we may consider, there will be reason for the Committee to which you have committed this Bill, to work expeditiously. They must make sure that the requested special sitting or sittings in a week’s time are productive so that we get this matter out of the way of Kenyans and ... view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: (Sen. (Prof.) Kindiki): Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank Sen. Hassan for his intervention. I agree with him entirely. However, that notwithstanding, I thank the Majority and Minority sides for the cooperation and statesmanship that we have displayed in handling a very sensitive national matter. My third point in that connection which flows from the Communication that you have just made is about public participation. Kenyans out there want to hear if the Senators struck a deal to delay this thing or why are we saying this? Article 118 of our Constitution says that Parliament must, not only conduct its affairs ... view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: (Sen. (Prof.) Kindiki): Mr. Speaker, Sir, this being a House of record, is the Senator for West Pokot County in order to mislead Kenyans that there have not been intrusions on parliamentary privilege before when we know that Members of Parliament have been arrested inside this Parliament Buildings? So, let us be sober. Which one is worse? Is it a barricade or an arrest of a Member of Parliament? Let us state facts as they are and condemn what we must condemn but not to distort history. view
  • 28 Dec 2016 in Senate: (Sen. (Prof.) Kindiki): On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. The Senate Minority Leader is entitled to his opinion. However, given the gravity of the sentiments he has made, could you order him to substantiate that I am a good man working for bad people? Who are these difficult people? Are they people of Tharaka-Nithi or the people of Kenya? Who are the difficult people? Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have not complained to the Senate Minority Leader. We might be laughing but I want to say this. As a leader in this House, it is small things like these ... view
