Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker, for also giving me a chance to add my voice to this important constitutional Bill. Before I go to the Bill itself, I just wish to note a few things here. As a country, we are in the middle of a pandemic; we are in an economic crisis. I thought COVID-19 is an issue that we should be discussing at the moment. However, a constitutional amendment is very important. Therefore, it is an important moment for us to add our voices as representatives of the people.

Madam Deputy Speaker, I will be very particular about the Bill. You will also allow me to read a few Articles. Allow me to look at the amendments. The amendment provides for 94 Senators, who will be elected to the Senate---

Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, for giving me a chance to also add my voice to this important Bill. From the outset, I want to go on record and say the Bill is important but it is not a priority for Kenyans.

If the promoters of the Bill are for equity purposes, where is the clause to ensure that women will sit in the Executive? Where is the clause that will ensure that the minority tribes like the Elmolo, Ilchamus and others ...

the IEBC. We should give the IEBC more allocation to prepare for and conduct transparent elections so as to ensure that those who have votes get to offices. It should not be a matter of giving power to people through a Bill. I thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me a chance to welcome Sen. Abdulkadir Haji. On my behalf and that of the people of Kajiado, I also congratulate and welcome him to the Senate. His late father, Sen. Yusuf Haji, was a well-known Senator by the people of Kajiado when he worked as a Provincial Commissioner (PC) for many years in the Rift Valley. He was valued because of his vast knowledge on issues to do with pastoralists. We are happy that the people of Garissa have extended that value to his son by giving him a chance to serve ...
