  • 10 Apr 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I stand to support the Petition that has been brought by my sister Sen. Dullo from Isiolo County. I congratulate her for her concern of her people and that is the reason we have the first woman Senator elected from the North Eastern counties; because of her concern for the community. view
  • 10 Apr 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I want to point out two issues in the Petition. It shows there was no public participation when this land was allocated to the military. It is a concern to the pastoralist communities when we see Government institutions take big chunks of land from us without public participation. view
  • 10 Apr 2019 in Senate: Secondly, is lack of community benefit even in the said projects. The Government carves out land from a community trust land and initiates a project which does not benefit them at all. view
  • 10 Apr 2019 in Senate: Finally, Article 63 (4) of the Constitution says: ―Community land shall not be disposed of or otherwise used except in terms of legislation specifying the nature and extent of the rights of members of each community individually and collectively.‖ view
  • 10 Apr 2019 in Senate: In this case of Isiolo County, this is a community land that should not be disposed of or be used forcibly by an authority that is in power. This is abuse of power to deny people their rights. Even if the Government allocated that land to the military, it is not right for them to use force to deny the people of Isiolo their rights to own land. view
