  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is an important statement. The Committee that will look into this issue should not only look into in the incidences affecting Marsabit County, but all areas facing insecurity across Kenya. I thank you. view
  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker. I rise pursuant to Standing Order 48(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on agriculture, livestock and fisheries concerning nixtamalization of maize; which means preparation of maize or other grains in which the grain is soaked and cooked in an alkaline solution, usually limewater, after which it is washed and then hulled to curb aflatoxins. This process produces over 600 maize products if it is done. In the Statement, the Committee should - (1) Elucidate on the reliability of nixtamalization technology commonly used in Mexico which entails treatment of maize using alkaline solution ... view
  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: (3) Outline the measures that will be put in place to ensure that the same technology if confirmed to be safe is extended to communities at the grassroots where people are grappling with aflatoxins due to the challenge of storing their maize produce and other grains. • 9 Jun 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order 47 (1) to make a Statement on a matter of national concern, namely, uniting in the fight against stigma linked to COVID-19. As you are aware, communities are making the lives of the survivors of COVID- 19 very hard by stigmatising them in various ways. Stigma makes both the affected and infected family members find it hard to live in a society even after the recovery, testing negative and the quarantine period. Stigmatising COVID-19 patients and those suspected to be COVID-19 positive is the last thing the society should ... view
  • 9 Jun 2020 in Senate: eliminate negative perceptions about the disease borne out of ignorance. Creation of quarantine and more health centres without counselling will not help much. Instead, we need side by side guidance and counselling centres, so that these services are offered to the infected and affected. This will enlighten everyone on COVID-19, and this disease can be defeated easily. On the other hand, if it will make it easy for people to volunteer for testing once they encounter any COVID-19 related symptoms or even those who are not yet affected in this case will go for testing, and the contact tracing cost ... view

  • 9 Jun 2020 in Senate: In the Statement, the Committee should investigate the matter with a view of - (a) ascertaining the cause of death and injuries which in the most recent attack on 2nd June 2020, resulted in the reaping off of a man’s left ear, gorging out of his eyes and mauling of his knee leaving him hospitalized at the Tenwek Mission Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, the said man died. • 2 Jun 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I also want to support my colleague, the Senator for Lamu. This Statement is still very relevant because of the fact that the weatherman has already said that rains will continue into June and July. In other words, we still expect to find more floods and even mudslides. view
  • 2 Jun 2020 in Senate: Many times, we have asked for an Implementation Committee in this House, so that they would be following up on some of these Statements. It is quite unfortunate that we have many of our people losing their lives. Right now, well over 1,000 people have been affected while others have already died. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I was able to see the houses of the people around Lamu surrounded by water. Those people have been taken to schools and lack the very basic amenities such as food and sanitary items. We know that right now, we have the challenge of ... view
