  • 10 Feb 2020 in Senate: The late President Moi was one leader who had his ears on the ground, not only through the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the provincial administration, but he also had strong point men who were in each and every community. They would let him know what was going on in those various places and that way, he was able to hold the country with his philosophy of Peace, Love and Unity. As we talk about building bridges, the taskforce in charge together with the Committee should go back to the drawing board and learn lessons from what late President Moi ... view
  • 5 Dec 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for this chance to also support this Petition. I used to say that Kenya is a country that has got a large number of unemployed youth. Every year, we are churning out graduates from all institutions of learning, including universities and many others, but we send them to the job market that is not there. • 5 Dec 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, it is quite a challenge. This is because we have few jobs advertised and there are many places that these youth have to pass through despite the fact that they may not be assured of getting those jobs. Kenya is one of the countries that has got over 40 per cent of unemployed youth. The other time, I said that this country involves itself in selecting very old people and leaving the youth who had been told to work hard in school because they are future leaders. I thank them for choosing to benchmark with our Committee which is one of the most powerful Committees in the Senate and has done a lot of work. I also thank them for choosing the powerful Sen. Madzayo together with Gov. Kingi. We recently visited Kilifi County as the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare and we managed to interact with the governor and the Senator ... view

  • 4 Dec 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, in addition, we have discovered that most of the counties are grappling with the issues of corruption and unpaid bills. I encourage the MCAs throughout the country to perform their oversight role to ensure that citizens get value for money. The Senate is working hard to increase allocation of resources to the counties. Part of the Senate’s proposal to the BBI Report is the increase of funds to counties. However, more resources to the counties will go to waste if they are not well managed. I urge the MCAs from Kilifi County to manage the resources of ... view

  • 28 Nov 2019 in Senate: The issue of falling milk prices is a challenge everywhere in the country. It is quite unfortunate particularly because one of the pillars of the Big Four Agenda of the Jubilee Government is food security. Farmers have to be encouraged so that we ensure we have food on our shelves. It is unfortunate that milk is following suit after falling maize prices. Recently, we had tea bonuses also falling terribly. The other time we talked about sugar cane prices also falling. I think sugar cane farmers have already given up. Tea farmers in my county, where we grow a lot ... view
