Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 3 May 2018 in National Assembly: If we do not take action as a country, we are going to take this country to a wrong direction. If the Leader of the Majority Party has asked me what has made me quiet, that is it. As a country, we need to be serious. Let us stop playing politics. If there are issues of equalisation that are making people feel bad in this country, we must address them. We cannot be coming here after every cycle of five years and saying: “People died. Let us get on. Let us move on”. We are tired of talking about moving ... view
  • 19 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairman, I want to wade into the definition of a registered nuclear engineer. As a Member of the Departmental Committee on Energy, while making the amendments, the wisdom that was used was that the country has trained a lot of nuclear engineers. Having gone through it and sought advice from engineers, I am informed that there is no association of registered nuclear engineers. What exists is an association for registered engineers of the Republic of Kenya. I am just making a contribution which will be informative. view

  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: I do not know. I am not a stranger. I think Hon. Duale has missed me but now he knows I am back. He can be ready. I am back. view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I thank Hon. Martha Wangari for bringing this Motion. She is a woman I admire. She reminds me of Winnie Mandela because of the fire within her belly. I congratulate her because recently some people were challenging her on some matters which are personal. I have not told her, but I congratulate her because she gave them a very appropriate response. When you are elected by your people you are elected to come here and legislate and to move Motions such as this one. How you do it in ... view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: time. The women Members of Parliament had wanted us to put aside a day just to discuss Winnie Mandela. Coming back to the Motion at hand, having worked at the Cradle for many years, one of the challenges that we faced, especially for undocumented children is the issue of birth registration. Many of us do not understand how when you do not have birth registration it affects every other possibility for you as a person. You find that most people will not access schools. This is a problem that we faced especially with Nyumbani Children Center that hosts a lot ... view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Chairman. Let me go on record now that I was mentioned severally. I have listened to what Hon. T.J. Kajwang’ has said. Going by the spirit of the Constitution where we give the CS a chance to make an appointment, I would be more comfortable if we provide for those appointments through an open and competitive process. Otherwise, when you give too much power to one person, it does not matter how good they are, they tend to abuse that power. view
