Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, from the outset, I want to thank hon. Amina Abdalla for giving me two minutes from her time. I totally support this Bill. I want to congratulate the Committee for having done an excellent job in terms of the information they have shared in the Bill and for engaging many of the stakeholders. Wildlife is one of the major resources of this country through tourism, which has created many job opportunities through foreign and local tourists. We need to conserve our wildlife. We also need to minimize the human-wildlife conflict and I am very happy that ...

Thank you, hon. Speaker for giving me this chance. From the outset, I want to say that 90 per cent of the people in northern Kenya actually depend on rain harvested water or underground water. However, I want to say that to get underground water requires a lot of technology because you need to drill boreholes and this is very expensive. I want to say that creation of multi-dam systems and desilting of all dams will really help in harvesting large quantities of rain water which can be used for The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for ...

a lot of things including domestic use, livestock use, irrigation, planting trees, regeneration of the aquifer and for introduction of fish farming. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to say that the constituency I represent which is Dadaab and majority of Garissa County, we are currently facing a serious shortage of water. Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I also want to thank hon. Wario for bringing this Motion and hon. Chepkonga for moving the amendments. From Garissa County, we are very much aware of the havoc floods cause. They affect Garissa, Tana River and Lamu counties. They cause the destruction of property, crops and impoverish people. This water comes about when there is excess rainfall upstream in the rivers which have been mentioned. Also, KenGen and TARDA releases water when the dams have reached the capacity. That point should be taken note of. Often there are announcements on the radio ...

Thank you very much, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance to contribute to this Motion. I really agree with hon. Tiyah Galgalo on the issue of disaster, particularly in northern Kenya in relation to drought. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, disasters in this country occur everywhere. They include floods, fires, rustling, accidents, et cetera . In my opinion, it is good to consider and strengthen the existing institutions. For example, we have the National Drought Management Authority which deals with disasters. It will be difficult to duplicate so many institutions without action. I want to say that ...
