  • 23 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker for giving me this chance. From the outset, I want to say that 90 per cent of the people in northern Kenya actually depend on rain harvested water or underground water. However, I want to say that to get underground water requires a lot of technology because you need to drill boreholes and this is very expensive. I want to say that creation of multi-dam systems and desilting of all dams will really help in harvesting large quantities of rain water which can be used for The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for ... view

  • 17 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I also want to thank hon. Wario for bringing this Motion and hon. Chepkonga for moving the amendments. From Garissa County, we are very much aware of the havoc floods cause. They affect Garissa, Tana River and Lamu counties. They cause the destruction of property, crops and impoverish people. This water comes about when there is excess rainfall upstream in the rivers which have been mentioned. Also, KenGen and TARDA releases water when the dams have reached the capacity. That point should be taken note of. Often there are announcements on the radio ... view
  • 2 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance to contribute to this Motion. I really agree with hon. Tiyah Galgalo on the issue of disaster, particularly in northern Kenya in relation to drought. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, disasters in this country occur everywhere. They include floods, fires, rustling, accidents, et cetera . In my opinion, it is good to consider and strengthen the existing institutions. For example, we have the National Drought Management Authority which deals with disasters. It will be difficult to duplicate so many institutions without action. I want to say that ... view
