  • 9 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity. Let me congratulate the Minister for bringing here this Bill, which I wholeheartedly support. In bringing a new Constitution we have turned a new page in Kenya. But if there is one thing which is going to make the constitution work as Kenyans expected, it is the justice sector of which the Judiciary is a pillar. The Judiciary has to be trusted. For people to put themselves in front of a judge, a magistrate or an arbitrator, they have to trust them. That is what sustains democracy and ... view
  • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, from the outset, I would like to say that I support this Bill. I want to say very clearly that we all know where we came from. Kenyans are looking at us for leadership; they want us to show them direction. We want to break away from the past, but we have to start somewhere. I have heard many people say that our institutions are not competent, and we will Fe bruary 4, 2009 PARLIAMENTAR Y DEBATES view
  • 5 Nov 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. First and foremost, I want to congratulate Mr. Ethuro for his able leadership in this issue. It has also occurred within a period where something momentous has happened in the world. I want to join the previous contributors in congratulating the American people for showing the resilience of democracy and the faith that we can have in democracy. I think there is a great lesson in what happened in America last evening in which Mr. Obama was elected the President of the United States of America. The greatest lesson of that is what ... view
  • 30 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I would like to support this Bill. First of all, I welcome the assurance from the Minister that amendment will be brought to the Bill to ensure that anti-retroviral drugs will not be affected. Therefore, generic drugs, which are very critical, will not be affected. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I come from a region where counterfeit goods are a major menace. Only God knows how many people have died as a result of counterfeit drugs and goods. Counterfeit goods are very dangerous. They kill the innocent. Go to toys. Parents love their children. • 7 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to support the Motion. I think the main argument for those who are opposing this Motion largely centres around an important report that should be tabled in this House, and an important answer that is being awaited from the Prime Minister. In my view, this House is very important and, at one time or another, there will be one important report to be tabled at every time. I think the wisdom or traditions of this House that puts various segments of the year for different activities to be undertaken is what we should follow. ... view
  • 7 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I stand to strongly support this Motion. You have said that I have one minute. • 7 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we have people fighting for resources. We have scarce water and pasture resources, which people are fighting over. So, we need to go back to the constituencies and arbitrate between fighting clans. Only three days ago, two people died on the border of Moyale and North Horr Districts. We need to lead from the front. view
